Was Vanilla WOW ever released in a big box?

So when I first bought WOW in Fall of 2006 I bought it in the smaller retail box that was common among PC games at the time (with an accompanyingly small and dense manual). I know some games at the time still persisted in the big boxes, and since I bought it a while after release I’m wondering if it ever released with a big box and big manual like Warcraft I and II came with.

(Incidentally this question also extends to Warcraft III, and whether its big box version came with a large manual like Warcraft I and II included, or whether it was always the small one I got in my Battle Chest version).

WC2: Battle.net Edition came in a big box. WoW did not. :slightly_frowning_face:

Note: the collector’s edition has always come in a big box.

I remember WoW being sold in little cardboard sleeves for a dollar with a dwarf riding a gryphon on it. EB Games had big stacks of them at the cash registers.

I never knew about that. I just had the version in the small rectangular cardboard box.

Only the CE came in a big box. I still have my Big box of WC2 and Tides of Darkness. Actually I have all my old games and their boxes, on bookshelves lol. My favorite is the original Everquest Box…So good!

I miss all of my big box games and lament getting rid of them. Currently my only big box game is the Might and Magic collection (1-6). Hoping to start building my collection up again once I get a better job (and a place to store this stuff).

i bought both versions i think.

  1. the regular version which was just the stand alone game in the box
  2. the battlechest which is basically WoW and BC in basically 2 of those boxes combined into 1 box. i don’t remember if the physical boxes were inside the big box i want to assume it was just a giant box with nothing but books/magazines and the little cd sleeves inside. ironic that they would advertise something so big with mostly space inside of it even at that time.

My very first Warcraft purchase was the Warcraft 1 and 2 Battle Chest, and even back then I think it was just the outer box, the games, and their manuals. The manuals were full size though, not the little 4 inch tall ones I got with Warcraft 3 and WoW.
