There’s a line in the Baine scenario about how Vol’Jin had the underhold in Org reopened to provide shelter when the Legion invaded. Timing seems a bit odd though, since he died in the first major invasion they did. The only way it works is if the prelaunch event was also cannon, and he reopened it as a result of those invasions.
Just another tidbit about the scenario that seems off…
It’s likely canon, as the event provided the context in which the Illidari became allied to the player factions, accounting for Khadgar’s absence at the failed Broken Shore assault by way of him greeting the liberated Illidari outside the Vault of the Wardens and sending them to help the Alliance and Horde fend off the Legion’s attacks.
Obviously the specific details aren’t necessarily canon; the same invasions in the same zones with the same demons in charge happening over and over is a gameplay thing. But it represented a generalized situation that while the Alliance and Horde sailed for the Broken Shore, their lands were already being assaulted by the Legion.
Not that you’d know it, as the largest demonic invasion in Azeroth’s history seemingly failed to burn down a single barn, let alone actually destroy any towns or cities.
It burned down places in Broken Shore, Azsuna and Suramar… The Legion Invasions of Azeroth failed to burn down cities before that point. The Scourge did more damage(mostly to Lordaeron and Quel’Thalas) than the Legion invasion it summoned did.
All the Legion invasion during the 3rd War did was corrupt Felwood… None of the Night Elven Buildings were in ruin.
The War of the Ancients did some damage to Zin Azshari but everywhere else(aside from the ground which was being leeched by Warlocks) pretty much was just fine until Malfurion and Illidan caused the Sundering.
The Legion invasion of Quel’Thalas failed to do any damage!
The Legion really doesn’t have a good track record concerning Azeroth. The Legion caused the most damage to Azeroth during Legion ultimately when it devastated Faronaar, Broken Shore and Felsoul Hold.
Canonically the reason we didn’t see much of a faction presence on the Broken Isles and the bulk of the fighting was done by the orders is because the pre-patch invasions continued to happen all over Azeroth for the duration of the xpac, especially during the Argus patch.
The portal to and from Dalaran was only loosely canon, in reality the group that went on the Vindicaar didn’t go back and forth, and was pretty much stuck on Argus until said ship flew back through. Which is why they flew and didn’t… you know, run through the portal on the ship to safety. But if you look through the front viewport of the Vindicaar you can see dozens and dozens of Legion ships heading down to Azeroth to attack even as we fight on Argus.
Legion had a lot of fun things in lore but it really did fail to show the true scale of things as they happened, or as they appeared. Even the aforementioned Vindicaar is much, much larger than shown in game, and we as players only had access to a small part of it anyway. The same with the Xenedar. The whole of the story is basically an ever-shrinking elite group of forces going into the heart of the Legion’s assault as the rest of the planet fights the bulk of their forces.
Supposedly WOTA razed Suramar to the ground. Or maybe it was just the environs outside of the dome. Which presumably included the Church of Elune which would explain why you see no sign of it in the domed city today… it was never there.
Which is what Jaina was doing during Legion: fighting demons elsewhere on Azeroth. Which is what I assumed she was doing while Legion was current, since the idea of her sitting sulking throughout a demonic invasion, while a funny meme, is not true to the character at all.
Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. It was nice of Warden Stillwater to defend us from the Legion, even though Sylvanas executed him for murdering Alliance and Forsaken in Cata.
Some of the named echos of draenei in Mac’are are actually the pre demon versions of some of the Legion commanders in the pre patch invasions if I’m remembering correctly. So there’s that tiny link, I guess.
Actually it was Apothecary Lydon who executed him and decided to bring his head to Sylvanas. He hasn’t been seen since that event unlike everyone else… Sylvanas probably executed Lydon for Warden Stillwater’s death. Stillwater appears in BfA Missions for the Alliance too…
Yes… Sylvanas condoned Stillwater’s actions which considering what she tried to do to Derek is unsurprising. Sylvanas doesn’t care about the cornerstones of Forsaken society nor their laws(that they so presumptuously made for themselves despite swearing loyalty to her) and merely made them assume she did.
The sequence of events was the Legion Invasions in the old world (Kalimdor/Eastern Kingdoms) and then the Broken Shore which led to Legion proper with the Broken Isles and then later on the Legion Assaults on Azsuna, Highmountain, Stormheim, and Val’sharah.
It’s kind of surprising Lydon hasn’t shown up in BFA since he’s arguably the most fabulously evil Forsaken of all time. Ranting about “death to the living”, torturing any humans he can get his hands on, poisoning puppies, etc. He was acting like the BFA Horde decades before BFA even came out!
And yet he was against enslaving the dead while Sylvanas wasn’t(she specifically stated that the only difference between her and the Lich King was that she served Garrosh and now she serves herself). Sylvanas couldn’t have that now could she? Warden Stillwater on the other hand is a man after her own heart.
Hopefully Warden Stillwater is a major Raid Boss in BfA…
I think it’s much more likely that Blizzard forgot their own lore. Stillwater isn’t the only dead NPC to come back in Hillsbrad. He’s just the most well-known.
In the Horde’s ranks the living Hillsbrad characters that once died were from Warden Stillwater’s staff.
The Alliance heroes that are alive again clearly were resurrected… Clearly the Horde Hero only killed the guys and left while those with the power to resurrect the dead came in.
No… she stated that she served the Horde. She never said anything about being loyal to him. Intentionally so since she knew pretty damm well that he was pulling a Garithos on her.
I could have sworn the Broken Shore happened, and the Legion invasions followed. Especially since the Legion invasions involved the Illidari, who were made playable during the pre-patch, and who were freed at the same time as the Broken Shore.
Which is especially funny knowing what we know. That she has no idea what pulling a Garithos is in the way you mean, and only thinks of the loud mouthed human and contingent of elf, dwarf, and human soldiers she betrayed and murdered when she hears the name.
