I think his point was that he wanted the Alliance to WANT to have better ethical standards than the Forsaken, not just say “The Forsaken do X, therefore it’s ethically fine for the Alliance to do it all the time too!”

I am not asking to hold the Alliance to Horde standards. I am saying I wish the Alliance would hold itself to it’s own standards because narratively they are the ones pushed as always having moral high ground. If the Alliance is going to be portrayed as the good guys then I would like them to show they hold their values seriously.

So, they just saw civilians torn apart before them by elementals and corehounds, letting them no that they don’t care if you are combatant or not, so what is he supposed to do? Sit down and wait? Preferably, you’d just apprehend the child/elder, because it is physically weak and disarmed.

It doesn’t mean you’re obligated as a soldier to get punched when trying to secure an area.

Except the Alliance doesn’t do it all the time. The Horde, specifically the Forsaken, on the other hand, are constantly breaking the moral standards that they call “honor”.
