So apparently in either 2.3 or 2.4 or somewhere close, the amount of gems you got from prospecting was increased and the amount of rares you got as well.
I’ve prospected just over 10k ore over the past week, with 5k of that being in the past 2 days, and it feels like something has changed within the past day or two. Before yesterday I was averaging around 21% to get a rare gem, now I’m barely scratching 17%. I haven’t looked at the math for the double gems either, but it again seems lower.
This may just be confirmation bias, but has anyone else had this same thing happening within the past few days? I get RNG is RNG, but RNG shouldn’t really be RNG when you’re prospecting 10k ore
The RNG factor in this game or any other isn’t actually RNG, it’s a fixed string of values based on an unknown seed value; that seed is meaningless but the string still exist as a fixed set that the game will feed you over time. This is why you can get a long string of procs or crits and then a long string of nothing because the values are wack like that.
Seems like it’s a retail engine thing since this is built on the retail engine.
There was a post about some bad RNG behavior on the dungeon dailies; perhaps blizzard will address their bad RNG system some day?
RNG baby, RNG. Bet you aren’t complaining when you crit 5 times in a row in an encounter or get a string of nice gear drops that you are looking for on the first dungeon/raid run.
Yeah, that never happens for me. I’ve run probably 100+ heroics on the same character and haven’t had a single epic drop that I needed. I’ve killed Heroic Shirrak like 50 times and can’t even get the Fanblade Pauldrons to drop. Attumen still hasn’t dropped the plate healing gloves. Shard and LJ have yet to drop in a Kara I’ve been in. So uh, yeah, F RNG.
I didn’t assume its static, I simply said that we don’t know what it is, but that part is meaningless any way. The problem they have is that the RNG strings way too frequently because of the algorithm used.
