I was quite disappointed to see that the zone didn’t get an HD remaster to bring it up to retail standards (similar to Darkshore/Arathi, at least). It’s not like Gilneas is ugly by any means, but Cata zones are still massively outdated compared to what we have now. The Scarlet Crusade NPC armor looks flat and underwhelming, for one. The terrain has that old “jagged” look, etc. Was expecting something more than a new quest chain in an old zone…
I don’t begrudge you being hopeful but I think your expectations were… overly optimistic.
They weren’t going to dedicate a whole lot of resouces just for 15 minutes of questing at all.
The way I see it, we should just be glad that it happened at all. They didn’t really have any obligation to let the Worgen retake Gilneas now. It was a nice little surprise.
freeing Gilneas is a lore event - because it does not affect players at all. we didnt go there before, we dont go there now.
so visuals don’t really matter.
Honestly to me the city looks good and up to modern standards still. This game graphically hasn’t had any massive super amazing improvements since Mists imo.
We just need a portal room there now.
And all the other cities.
I think the project should have involved airlifting in thousands of truckloads of gravel from Durotar to fill in the low spots.
That’s more than Undercity got.
Undercity…
a ruin of a ruin.
The visuals are the only thing that matter to me, and I’m sure this applies to many other players. I tend zip through these quests like nothing, so what’s the point of even doing them? I want to see Azeroth in all its glory.
There’s nothing that says that won’t happen anyway. The northern half of EK seems like it’s going to see some shenanigans before long.
I wasn’t personally expecting a total revamp, and I’m okay with the service NPC’s added; Bank, 2 inn keepers, various junk vendors, profession trainer etc,. Although a flight point would have been nice. The city literally just got retaken, it takes time to build up. Just like the new Night Elf city. Seems like people were expecting something to the effect of “Poof! New city!”
So we’ll see in time if they do anything with the area. I’m huffing a good sized bag of hopium that something gets done with that whole area by Midnight. It’s worth noting though that all Metzen said was a revemped Silvermoon, so I’m trying not to huff too much of that hopium poison.
I was thinking if midnight takes place in northern eastern kingdoms, they’ll probably update that whole entire area all at once.
Could be completely wrong, but that makes the most sense to me, do a massive overhaul
.
These weren’t additions, they exist in the starter zone. The only update was the lack of enemies.
I get that. What I meant by “added” was in reference to the whole area being completely devoid of life for so long after the starting quest line. Now at least it’s a somewhat functional place.
Beware of the monkey paw.
wiggles toes
At this stage of its development, Blizzard doesn’t do anything for the sake of being nice. IMO, they’re just setting up Gilneas to be a faction hub in 12.0.
I didn’t expect a graphical overhaul at this juncture. I think we might get an overhaul of the old world in the next trilogy, but we’ll see. I did expect a portal and a flight master at a minimum, and preferably an AH at one of the market stalls so it would be a viable place to live in. Maybe have a ship that comes from Bel’amath, so that Gilneans who have presumably been living with the Night Elves since Cataclysm can come home. Really they didn’t do anything to update the content in the zone other than removing the enemies, and I have no expectation of more in the foreseeable future. It would have been cool at this point to have a few daily or weekly quests in the zone to perform some tasks to help rebuild. Maybe there’s a vendor you can purchase Gilnean transmog or other items in exchange for your work. At this point, we have the zone for RP without glitching in and that’s it.
It was nice to go back to the zone and do something other than rolling a new worgen.
Hopefully some kind of revamp is coming. I love the zone. They should make it as great as Drustvar is.
Aren’t they planning a mass-update to the classic zones in the future? Like from Classic to Cataclysm that is? ![]()
I swear I recall hearing that somewhere, where they plan on doing like what they did with Cataclysm in changing all the zones to be up to date with lore etc. ![]()
