I have tried like 3,4 since the expansion came out… never ever went back since then… If you are enjoying them good for you, but I find them a boring version of Torghast 2.0, Specially the Indiana Jones theme isn’t for me.
I think they are the best new thing added to WoW in many years.
To me, not a failure, but I don’t usually choose to do them. They were better than regular torghast but worse than torghast boss rush imo.
I might like them more if they scaled infinitely and had like a DelveIO score to push up, and tank brann was great for dps players who don’t want to do pulling/mob management. I’d also like to be able to get BIS geared for delves from delve loot drops only, no crafting. Maybe like pvp, delve gear can be +30 ilvl in delves.
I don’t care for them, as I like gear and the best cost efficient way to grab some myth track stuff is doing my weekly 10s, so I go and do them.
I only delve if a quest requires it (like the new belt mcguffin) or at the start of the season, to grab champ and hero gear so I can jump on mythic plus, arm myself to the teeth and drag my band of lovable incoherent morons (my guildies) and bash our foreheads on the raid until we either get AotC or give up and go back to doing mythics.
HOWEVER
A lot of folks who don’t play the way I do seem to have fallen in love with delves. They get okayish gear from those, enough to fulfil a sense of progressing their character, they enjoy the solo challenge and developed a mysterious yet serious intolerance for smoked gouda. It’s a successful endgame pillar for casual solo players who before were stuck doing world quests. It keeps them in tha game and that’s a win in my book
What little of delves I’ve done (I haven’t played as much as I expected this expansion due to irl issues) I’ve enjoyed quite a bit. Especially I’ve enjoyed that I can run them solo or with a cross faction group of any size, as it remains one of my biggest gameplay issues that it’s impossible to do random queues cross faction and as it turns out a lot of my friends are spread evenly and it takes quite a bit of coordination to have a group of 5 toons let alone 5 toons on the same side at the same time.
I actually enjoy Delves quite a bit. They can be taxing if you run them on too many alts (But what content isn’t?)
I certainly enjoy them far more than Torghast or Horrific Visions.
My only gripes are things like:
-I don’t want to “talk to the NPC” to begin, I hate those arbitrary checkpoints. If I already know what I’m doing, let me just go!
-I think some of the regional hazards are underwhelming and should just be axed (eg, candles, air purifiers). “Click X to gain access to Y radius of terrain” isn’t a compelling gameplay loop. Reworked spores and minecarts are fine (although I suppose pet classes might find them less so).
Other things are fixable in my view, for example Delves having a linear path (albeit one that changes based on the “scenario” of the instance) lowers the replayability factor. I think that, when map design allows, they should aim to make rooms modular instead.
Oh, and the Brann AI is sort of annoying I guess. Actually, Brann is just kind of annoying. I feel like you could cut down the Indiana Jones thing and get back to “traditional” Warcraft if you weren’t required to have Brann, or could at least pick other options.
In short, Delves are a win imo, they’re one of the better pieces of solo content Blizzard has put out & I hope they continue iterating on them. I rarely praise Blizzard these days and still think things are going downhill overall, but delves have been a rare bright spot.
They’re fun enough and offer meaningful character progression to people who don’t Raid or run M+, and they’re especially great for alts. I wouldn’t have nearly as many characters as I do atm if delves didn’t exist.
I think whether they are a “success” or a “failure” would depend on whether Blizzard met its goals. Since we don’t know what those goals were, and we would never have data that would let us figure out whether those goals were met, we’ll basically never know. In the future we will be able to judge how successful they have been based on changes that come up in upcoming patches and expansions.
This has been a problem with quests for a very long time now. Doubly so with those ones that only give you credit if you take the provided vehicle or whatever. What happened to the good old days of “meet me there?” Why all this needless extra crap?
I think delves are a massive success and a great alternative to mythic dungeons. I just wish there were tougher tiers.
They’re a fantastic success. Especially for older or solo players that were looking for a progression system.
It’s not Torghast. And just because you don’t like them and want to dismiss others with a “good for you” doesn’t whatsoever make them a failure.
Delves are serving a heretofore ignored subsect of the player base. Giving them content beyond world quests, transmog farming or rolling an alt.
They have been a smashing success in this regard.
I liked 'em.
They could obviously be way better, but they’re decent enough.
Choreghast was so much worse
I think everyone is way too hard on Torghast, i think if it were released this expansion instead of Delves and had its own vault row/chests etc (and the loot kept scaling up with the the challenges you overcome) it would be a smashing success.
If Blizzard gives us content that’s essentially forced, but has no reward structure, it’s going to fail no matter what.
Not a failure at all - they have been far less damaging to the game than the introduction of M+ was.
Nah choreghast sucked bad. It was pretty good in beta then they went ahead and ruined it
The way it was implemented sucked, but i stand by my position on the content itself, i had a lot of fun killing stuff and getting crazy buff combo’s, i kinda with that Delves had something like that, crazy buffs and infinite scaling. The gear rewards would have to stop at some level of course, but cosmetic rewards for pushing insane levels could have been a lot of fun.
Torgast was ruined by the Devs. Weekly chores with almost no rewards? Why?
Delves are nothing like it either and i am fine with them. I do them for ults, goofing off, weekly free heroic gear etc.
Better AI and more voicelines for the next Brann should be a major priority.
Except you can actually gear up doing them, like my 672 Druid has done.
So no, delves are definitely not a failure.
I love delves and have been playing just them this season on 8 or so characters. The delve community seems to be quite large and has a lot of people like me who have quit group content due to it’s toxicity. It also seems to attract players who can’t commit to raid/guild or need to be able to afk with no notice or affect to a group.
They are nothing like Torghast. It was a horrible, monotonous place with little rewards or reason for existing.
