Thinking back to BFA - I can’t remember any timegating that is on the level of SL. Is my memory messed up or is SL timegating really, really bad? I feel like Blizzard isn’t confident in their product and thus stuck everything behind a renown cap to keep players subbed. If the content was great then it should stand on its own without timegates.
No but Legion (kinda) was… This exp reminds me more of Legion than it does BfA.
I agree.
without the gating some players would eat thru the content in a month and be screaming “Im bored” and we all know it.
I feel you missed the actual purpose of the gates.
It’s not about the quality of the content, it’s the QUANTITY.
There wouldn’t be ish to do if they didn’t gate so harshly.
And… that’s fine?
There’s a certain other MMO whose lead producer overtly stated that if people feel that there is nothing left for them to do, they should take a break and come back when they’ve added more to the game.
Not corporate-friendly, but definitely player-friendly.
And it seems so strange that that’s a critique I have of Blizzard…
You don’t need a month, not even casual players need a month.
There’s a severe lack of actual content in the zones to do.
When was it normal for you to do all the quests in an expansion a few weeks after it released, only to wait on gate to open up quests from your covenant?
And I’m not talking dailies and weeklies.
There’d be playing the rest of the game, like how it used to work before they introduced time gating.
Time gating is another example of Blizzard telling us how to play the game rather than just letting us play.
Well after a 7 year hiatus I’ve discovered the best way to experience WoW is to take a multi year break and then come back when timegates are removed and flying is available. I haven’t been in Shadowlands for a month and I’m enjoying unlocking things I missed in legion. I also thought BFA was a great experience to quest through and happy I came in at the very end.
In what effing world is it “player friendly” to tell them to go away if there isn’t enough to do.
WTF is wrong with you?
There isn’t anything for me to do but a couple dailies every day…what other content are you talking about!
Because artificially timegating content to manipulate players to stay subscribed isn’t exactly the most player-friendly thing one can do.
That’s how I’ve been leveling alts. Literally get everyone of them up to 50 then hard stop because SL is bad
My dude! The time gates are literally to say “come back when we unlock more content.”
That’s horrible way to treat SUBSCRIBING customers, in a hybrid MTX model where play time literally translates to MTX transactions.
Not having us in game is bad for the corporation, and the player. The company is realizing less in transactions, and players have more opportunity to get drawn into a new game.
its fine that blizzard is dealing with more than one player type and is likely trying to keep everyone at the same pace so…AS I SAID…some arent burning thru all the content in a month.
If this were a SOLO game…have at it…do it all in two weeks…no one cares.
But its not a solo game. They have to release content in stages…have to keep it gated or AS I SAID…we’re going to have some players screaming 'IM BORED" in a month and way ahead of those who cant live on a video game 20 hours a day.
Theres a lot blizzard does to make me hate the controlling sorts among them such as Ion and company…but this isnt one of those things.
The people that complain about a lack of content are going to be complaining regardless of how you roll it out.
Yep SL is beautiful but I’ve put 40+ hours into the story with my Alliance main and still need to finish and pick a covenant. But the minute I turned 60 everything went to sheet. I’m scared of all the efforts I will need to grind to make my character fun again. It’s a shame the a lvl 60 in current content feels weaker then a fresh 50 in BFA.
The expansion is a dud. Literally Ion only wants you doing M+, PVP, or Raiding at 60. That’s it.
I recall the war campaign was sort of gated. Then there was titanforging, remember that?
What else has there ever been to do at max level?
