Was BFA a successful expansion?

This expansion i would only consider as average. It took the fun aspects of legion and dumb them down while keeping the same issues legion had. All in all i feel like Legion was a big improvement over WoD while BFA feels like a downgrade from Legion.

This was the expansion where I got roped into committing genocide by participating in the pre-patch and then had to endure being Sylvanas’ errand-tauren while taking snide verbal abuse from Nathanos Blueballer for the rest of it.

No, I will never look favorably on this expansion and will avoid it on every toon I level to cap after the squish.

Curiosity yes. Not sure if it’s enough to buy it. Even though I think almost all of the systems in BFA have been broken and shouldn’t exist I always like playing around and seeing it for myself. I blew the last gold I had sticking around this month after getting T3 EV week 1 cause I wanted to experience corruption myself.

Despite not really playing much and taking months off at a time this expansion I’ve kept my character relevant(thanks for all the easy gear!) doing my weekly “chores” and casual PvP. Hell I’ve even been lucky getting good gear with T3 EV, T3 TD and T2 TD. Part of me thinks if I had a good group like legion to mythic + or raided heroic/mythic I wouldn’t be as disappointed with this expansion.

Friends are what make WoW.

Well, I just disagree with you on every count there.

Love Horrific Visions for instance; they are incredibly fun. I have thoroughly enjoyed playing my warrior, death knight, paladin, druid, and hunter, have loved all of the raids, thought the war campaign was brilliant, and even enjoyed doing islands and warfronts from time to time.

So, not only was it successful monetarily, it was a resounding success on a gameplay front to me, and to lots of other people. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Weird, as far as I can tell I’ve played more of the game than you

And it did not impress me

I don’t mind the horrific visions though they were a pretty neat addition

The raids haven’t been half bad too

Copies sold doesn’t mean BFA is successful, it means Legion was successful in making us trust Blizzard again.

BFA needed the launch of classic and constant 6 months promo mounts to keep WoW revenue up and Blizzard was still the weakest of the 3 actiblizz brands.

Go google the sub numbers, I would post it but for some reason I can’t post that link lol but we are down and down a mil from the end of legion

That’s true for sure. It’s just wrath happened so long ago I barely remember it. I tried going through the content with a DK awhile back. Still fun times!

But yeah, cata was meh, and I do agree that’s when it started. I left for many years after that. I heard MoP was great, and then WoD was meh as well. I came back in legion and enjoyed it!

I’m just saying there’s always a seemingly vocal population who curse everything that wow is, and yet still keep subbing! Ah well. People gonna vent right.

my friends are currently laughing at the fact that this whole corruption thing seems to have completely skipped my toon lol. I have had gloves for 5 weeks in a row all (but one) with minor corruptions, the one I did have had a T2 corruption

I am not even bothering with the cape grind because at this stage it just doesn’t affect me in any way. I have clearly angered the RNG gods

This is the WRONG place to ask that question and not get a totally skewed and biased reaction. Most of the people that don’t like the changes and the gameplay anymore are gone, so all you have left is fanbois and people like me who lurk hoping the game picks back up (knowing it never will).

I have no numbers for comparison. It’s probably had the most complaints from start to finish though.

Even though I enjoyed it and I don’t understand why it’s so hated, I have to admit that it was a flop for an expansion.

I spent maybe 75% of this xpac not subscribed, compared to Legion where I subbed the whole xpac. The story was much worse, and there were too many unreasonable barriers to flying and allied race unlocks.
A a Kul Tiran would have been fun if I could have had some fresh content to play through and not have to play through it all in the first place to unlock it.

Mechagon and Nazjatar didn’t seem very interesting and 8.2 did not bring me back, was unsubbed pretty much whole time from 8.1 to a little after 8.3.

No, not successful, and shadowlands looks Japanese and final fantasy, no thanks ill play classicBC when it comes out,
I personally played bc,wrath, cata, legion (quit mop, wod, and other parts at times)
Id say BFA was the worst expansion I ever -played- cant speak for wod/mop because I didn’t tryhard them.

I also payed for legion xpac with cash and payed for every hour, bfa I found ways to earn it with gold and didn’t buy the expansion myself, and now I play vanilla instead.
first time I gave up on WoW tbh

Sure wasn’t for me. The visions are what has finally done it for me. Grinding the same crap out over ond over again to upgrade a cloak is just boring. I stupidly bought a six month sub, but I am done.

Monetarily yes. They learned how to milk shrinking playerbase
Population wise? God no. I saw 6 Alliance guilds I was in completely fall apart from people just not logging on and all going to other MMO’s.

Alliance is all but dead in WoW even Alliance heavy servers would be light or medium compared to Horde.

Every single design decision in BFA was designed around pointless grindy RNG to feel like you made any progress just to shoot it at a sword at the end of the expansion and be told to start over.

Story is easily the worst of any of them. Last old god that was set-up since Cata has been completely wasted.

Classes widdled down to almost nothing. The rise of Raider IO with no attempt by Blizzard to fix the core issue with why Raider IO even exist.

Yep, as well as Monthly Active Users (which they seem to care about more, now.)

Every part of it was designed to keep players logging in, for at least an hour a day.

Blizzard doesn’t measure “success” in the same way we do. For all we know, it could be the MOST “successful” expansion to Acti-Blizzard, so we’ll see more of the same because they’ll think they did things right.

Like others, I disliked lots of parts of it; It also kept me “logged in” far more than Legion did, while Legion was my FAVORITE expansion.

Nah, possibly only for raiders/world PVP people (and I’ve heard even some servers are STILL lopsided towards Alliance for world PVP.)

Alliance is still great for me, on my server, as more of a casual player. I never have to wait for Alliance groups, when I do the group finder thing.

Same, with gloves  Had the “oozing blood” one on the gloves, only 15 corruption (so kept that, on the 445 I got. )

Recently FINALLY got another “good” one? 445 legs with tier 3 (66 coruption…ew…) “twisted apendage” (where those tentacles come up. In looking, it is actually supposed to be “good” for a blood DK. However, I finally decided to remove it; For not even proccing the tentacles very often, even at rank 10 cloak I had that eye and my doppelganger(twisted vision, whatever) FAR too often. Her ghosty self coming at me WAS CUTE, but not worth it. It just added too much of an “avoidance” mini game, for me to bother with.

I won’t bother with a bigger corruption, which is corrupting me all the time, unless it is something like Echoing void which is supposed to be good (or I’d even try the infinite stars.) I’m also not a fan of my character always looking “voidy.”

I almost spit out my drink.

You clearly weren’t on the forums then. Especially for Wrath.

There is a reason “Wrathbaby” was coined then.
