I really like patch 1.14.4 and implementing hardcore gives me hope as a Blizzard customer. Trading seemed to have a smaller impact that I thought, it still keeps the spirit of what I think Hardcore is. However we’re only 11-days into this and I already got this in-game mail advertisement to buy gold:
What happens when we fast forward a month from now? The server is ruined.
It’s quite obvious that some folks at Blizzard is complicit in the gold selling for personal gain. This gold is undoubtedly acquired via bots using unlockers (aka hacks). Someone works at Blizz and tells them how to get the unlocker to work undoubtedly. There is big money IRL on the line here with the gold selling. Why would someone who had the power to not do it? Can Blizzard take care of this? I mean ban the bots and also route out your corrupt employees!
It’s also funny all the other forum posters that argued this wouldn’t happen just a few weeks ago.

A simple search shows that there is already a good amount of gold available. Many of us could see this coming.
Yes, I’m trying to find the threads of folks arguing against the obvious - that gold selling would be iminent if trading was allowed. I think starting with SSF option would have made it much less profitable and maybe prevented it.
Props to whatever Blizzard employee is being a double agent and making hundreds of thousands of dollars selling bots and selling gold.

What I’m hoping is this is mainly due to the temporary/tourists playing and it will die out when the mode is less shiny.

I fail to see how the server is ruined, considering this is a personal challenge. Nothing is ruined, play the way you want, join like-minded friends on the journey. This will exist always, in any shape size and form. Just ignore it, not very difficult. If everyone did the same, it would cease to exist.

I think the plague of buying gold is really self-evident and does not need an explanation but I’ll give it a shot since you “…fail to see how…”
The least of our problems is players buying BoE items and mounts with illicit gold to make their journey to 60 easier, thus diminishing the value of the achievement for everyone.
Stepping up the intensity, you won’t be able to participate in your server’s economy unless you buy gold. Because the supply and demand is being injected with bot-farmed gold, which exceeds the amount most players would ever acquire. The AH is saturated with bot-gold. Prices are all out-of-wack.
In extreme situations - as we’ve seen in Wrath - you will not be able to join groups unless you either pay or are already geared, known as Gold-DKPs.
Ultimately, we’ll be begging Blizz to implement to Classic WoW Hardcore Token.

Never bothered me in all my years of gaming. Not sure why people are bothered by someone else’s experience. Once again, this won’t impact the majority of players, just the weirdos who obsess over it.

On non hardcore classic servers I ignore bots - I don’t buy stuff off the ah and with my friends have all trades covered.
On hardcore servers where gear can be life or death and low to mid-level blues are already overinflated in price (eg 5g for a lvl 17 blue cloak that isnt fantastic) then bots have a much bigger and game destroying impact.
There are some simple things that Blizzard could do to hinder bots. I hope that it is not a corporate decision that subscriptions from bot owners generates more income than banning them. Seeing bots fly port from ore spawn to ore spawn means they have access to things they shouldn’t - and I understand that that is fairly easy to prevent.
I look at a few peoples gear and I know the only way that could have happened is gold buying. Their gear doesn’t affect me - but my inability to buy it off the ah does - and Im not buying gold. Ultimately, if we buy gold - we are the problem - that is where the chain begins.
