It kind of does matter if we want to avoid confusion.
Your MoP comparison isn’t really a fair one because MoP and Mists only refer to one thing in the game.
Nobody has the authority to decide on what abbreviation you use. However, anyone with an average IQ will understand why it would be confusing to use “WW” when refering to the next expansion.
Also, as I pointed out in a previous post:
Well you can use whatever you want to use, no one will stop you.
I’m still using WW.
