Warrior Questions - Alliance

Hi all,

Can anyone confirm whether Human racials are best for warrior? I intend to do PVP/decently high content. Also I have read that there will be a lot of warriors - can anyone explain why? I thought they were hardest to level and had the highest competition for gear in classic - surely that is a bit of a disincentive?

Can anyone suggest another class if I want to top BG’s/PVP and damage meters? I was considering mage but i’d go gnome (not a bad compromise tbh)

Was thinking Human warrior due to racial and extra weapon skill. pls confirm (rather not horde due to 14 years hordy)

Warriors were unstoppable monsters at the highest gear levels.

WoW Classic is a #change from Vanilla classic in that there will be a gear ceiling not a gear treadmill. Time + persistence = highest gear levels.

Hence, want to be OP? Roll warrior.

As for human, sword spec and spirit is good for helping to get gear but at the top stone skin or escape artist might be more useful…

For PvE DPS, Human. Their weapon spec is the clear winner for raiding. For tanking, probably still human, but Night Elf dodge bonus is sometimes considered.

For PvP, the choice is less clear cut. Weapon skill doesn’t do much for you, there. Dwarves have the superb stoneskin, which drops poisons and bleeds, turning you into a rogue butchering machine, and can even strip off diseases such as Shadow Priest’s devouring plague.

Night Elves have Shadowmeld, which is useful for ambushes and confusing enemy teams in WSG and Basin. Surprise, there was a warrior guarding it!

As for why everyone’s mental over warriors, they scale well with gear, due to how rage generation works - more damage = more rage = more damage.

Be warned: they’re hard to level, flat out bad in 1v1 while they’re still in blues in the 1.12 ecosystem. In general, a warrior really needs a group to shine, but when they have some backup heals they turn into chainsaw wielding maniacs.

They really are no fun to level at all. Takes great perseverance, it’s so incredibly boring.

Because every new warrior has fantasies of being Maydie or being #1 DPS. Doesn’t really work out that way. 90% of them end up stuck in LFG trying to find groups that won’t make them tank.

Also dwarf is the best alliance race for anything. Human if you’re a pleb who cares about things like “massive mechanical advantage.”

Hahahaha. A real warrior shows up with their shield out, first, regardless of spec.

Joined in TBC, is it better to level as Prot for classic? I like Dwarves but man I just cannot be a stout lil dwarf. Humans in mogs are so much better.

Due to the nerfing of sit + crit, the new best leveling spec for warrior is the arms talent tree. Don’t worry, keep a shield + 1 hander in your bags and you’ll handily still be the best tank option for all pre-lvl 60 dungeons. That was the nice thing about vanilla warriors. Only class to have a choice between roles while still being viable in both.

Prot doesn’t do damage of any kind in vanilla. It’s a nightmare. Fury or Arms. Don’t be afraid to go 2-handed fury until you have the hit for DW, either.

Jury’s still out on hit mechanics, though. I’m not sure they’re the same to what I remember from my last few years on private servers, so leveling DW might be optimal after all.

If you’re looking to min/max and play to the absolute peak of your potential, you should go Human. The weapon skill is absolutely awesome in earlier tiers, but as the progression lengthens, daggers actually become extremely good for tanking. Aged Core Leather Gloves from MC + Death’s Sting from AQ40 will vault your TPS to absurd levels, borderline rivaling Thunderfury on non-Human tanks. This is also done using Fury/Prot hybrid tanking, but that is another arguement.

There is also an added benefit in PvP if you happen to be using a sword like Bonereaver’s or Ashkandi, as you will inevitably run into some Warriors that have random pieces of +defense gear (from the gear itself or ZG enchants), and the +skill will curb the difference in terms of the native 5% hit you need for PvP. If they are breaking the 300/300 flat 60 level defense, and hitting say 320 defense, some sword skill goes a long way in mitigating the chances of encountering a dodge, parry, or miss.

From a PvP standpoint, Gnome is probably best. Escape Artist is unparalleled. But again, Human has a close second in Perception for Rogue encounters (world PvP comes to mind) and Diplomacy (10% bonus rep) reaping the rewards of a quicker Exalted standing with various PvP factions and other factions. Getting an Unstoppable Force 10% faster coupled with the native +5 mace skill will do you wonders in PvP. Probably not noticeable to the average player, but another token to consider in the min/max arguement.

Taking everything into account, Human is probably best for overall min/max.

But, I will point out the fact that player skill is entirely separate from these arguements. I’ve seen plenty of Tauren Warriors absolutely dominate the DPS meters on Horde over their Orc counterparts, just due to the player’s skill. I’ve seen plenty of main tanks that are Night Elf leading the progression charge and raid leading, achieving rank 14, and being regarded as the best player. Laintime was Undead, and is probably one of the best Vanilla Warriors to ever play the game. Monkeynews is probably the best Warrior since in the private server era, and he chose Gnome, yet regularly topped meters.

Point being, it’s always going to come down to your skill level. If you think you are an elite player and have the snuff, roll whatever.

Good luck brother ;].

So for a first time classicer - Obviously first aid is essential for levelling - does anyone else have any tips for reducing the difficulty in levelling a warrior? Am I correct in saying im pretty much going to be single pulling as arms, killing, eating and repeating till 60? Or can I kill 3 mobs if I have CD’s?

Make pals with a mage and beg for bread.

Oh, and you can tank everything just fine until you’re 55+ as arms or fury. So don’t worry about being prot for early instances.

You can absolutely kill more than 3 mobs when you hit a certain point. When you hit 36 and acquire Whirlwind, and have your Whirlwind Axe, you can utilize Arms to a great potential. Pulling a camp of melee mobs, Charge, then simply pop Sweeping Strikes, stance dance to Berserker Stance (edit; pop Berserker Rage and Bloodrage for bonus rage!!!) Whirlwind, and Cleave. You will absolutely nuke mobs. Utilizing your 30 minute CD Retaliaton with Sweeping Strikes is an Unholy mess. It will absolutely massacre tough packs;

Sure, he has some great gear, and Windfury, but the numbers speak for themselves. Mind you this is in a level 60 dungeon (Stratholme), and the pack is all elites. Notice the melt? This video alone should show you some of the potential prowess of the almighty Warrior class. ;]

As for earlier on, getting a swing timer or self-timing your swings and keeping Rend + Hamstring up (bleed and slow) will mitigate the damage you take. You don’t have downtime if you don’t take much damage. What’s the point in sitting still and getting rage if you have to eat or bandage between every single mob? Abuse the mechanics of melee range and master combat. It will teach you positional and kiting tactics which will bleed into the eventual tanking you will need to do.

If you have any more questions, by all means ask :).

Because every epeening fool thinks that because they rolled warrior they’re going to be gods at everything.

You’re not going to be the MT in a guild getting thunderfury for tanking, while getting sulf for pvp and wrecking face in every bg. Odds are you’re going to be competing with 15+ other people for weapons and dps leather.
