Warrior PvP - What should I know?

So, I am God awful when it comes to PvP in almost any game. I am planning on playing a Warrior for Classic when it releases, and on a PvP realm. I want to participate a bit in the PvP, but I can’t play if I am not informed on how to play proper. Can you please tell me what I need to know as a warrior in PvP?

I do understand that Warriors are easily kitable, are weak against almost every class besides Paladins and Hunters, and are pretty much dead without a pocket healer or in a party. What else should I know?

Stance dancing can help you a lot but against an evenly matched opponent who can heal themselves, the odds are stacked against you.

Paladins beat warriors…

So warriors have a really high potential in pvp. They are the class that scales the highest with gear. If you get the best gear in the game, which is extremely difficult, you will be a monster.

Otherwise, you have to be careful. Protecting the healers will be your main job, because they are ones who will be able to keep you alive and you have the best tools to do so.

Mortal strike is strong and has really good utility.

You will have to learn how to stance dance. It’s quite fun to learn… and there are ways to kite as a warrior… takes time and practice. I didn’t know how to do it until I saw another warrior do it to me in a duel xD.

Warriors are mid-tier in pvp to me, but they have really high potential based on gear.

You start off as trash but you are insanely strong once you get geared. You are also pretty much useless without a healer as all you only have Intercept, Hamstring, and Piercing Howl (if talented) to deal with being kited. Berserker Rage only works on fears and incapacitate effects. Not to mention that you have no self healing at all (that tiny amount from Bloodthirst does not count).

Look, here’s reality.

Warriors are by far the worst solo PVP class, without great, or at least good gear. When can you get great gear? At 60.
Ergo, pre-60, you will suffer.

Pre-Intercept, which means pre lvl 30, you will be almost totally helpless vs ranged classes, as Charge is not usable in combat in Classic. I’d say, don’t bother with BGs until you are in your high 30s and preferably have a good 2 hander, as in WW Axe. Speaking of that, always upgrade your weapon and at your earliest opportunity. Make sure that aside from tanking of course, you are using a 2-hander. Use it in PVP and also for world questing, either as Arms or 2-handed Fury. DW Fury is only viable starting at least Del Rand’s set, and even then it is not as good in PVP as a good 2-hander.
If you can afford it, get Kang the Decapitator. It is I believe a lvl 44 Epic Axe and is awesome. You can conceivably use it till you get to 60. It melts faces.

Hamstring is your friend in general. Rend vs Rogues. Switch to S/S vs rogues and only rogues.

If possible, team up with a healer, but I’m sure that is self-evident. Don’t get me wrong, with experience, you can make a real difference in BGs even without a healer, but no matter how good you are, playing without a healer means you will die, and die a lot.

When I pugged in vanilla, without a healer I was often top on KBs, but ALWAYS top in deaths.

Get used to dying. Revel in it. It’s a right of passage of a Warrior.

1v1 will suck but in group play just go for high Stam and be a punchingbag, works good. Even +def is usefull.

It will be a tough road.

If you have a healer with you and spec Arms, you can be one of the best PvP classes.

If you’re solo, god help you.

Well if you’re new then you’re going to fail. You’re going to fail a lot. The important thing to do is recognize your failings and identify them every time you fail. If you can use your failures and learn from them then eventually you’ll be half way decent.

So if, for example, you get wrecked by a rogue then take a step back and consider what happened. Are there abilities off of cooldown you could have used that would have helped? Is there something the rogue did that could have tipped you off? For example was the rogue partially transparent indicating that he popped evasion and you didn’t use overpower?

If you get wrecked by a ranged opponent take a look at your surroundings. Was there a wall you could have hid behind?

The best of the best are able to identify what they did wrong or what they could have done better. Recognizing these things and working towards correcting them is the surest way to becoming a better player. There’s always something you can do better. Never stop looking for ways to improve even if you always win.

Learn to be unhappy, pick up drinking and smoking so you don’t lose your sanity.

Stance dance ASAP Get engineering it’s a must, learn to tank to allure in healers, be willing to drop BIG gold into pvp until you have a lot of gear. DON’T PVP bg wise until you have good gear, or EVERYONE will hate you on your server.

Even if you go alliance, Free action potion is your friend. IF you’re new to warriors go Alliance for Hand of protection, pally healers sync better in PVP then priest or shammy’s as a carry.

You can counter rogues, and any decent hunter should destroy a warrior. If you see a mage run or die if you’re by yourself, there is no middle ground. Reckless on a warlock at pull and you’ll kill him, but die to dots.

Be ready to be a leader and have to compete with players WHO ARE MORE SKILLED AND WELCOMING TO YOU. It’s not a fun road but it’s rewarding if you’re new i’d high recommend you don’t do this to yourself unless you have at least 3-42 people backing you. But hey man, good luck if you got any other questions hit me up.
