I mean you can say that all you want but all the casters are going to straight up replace that staff in what? 2 levels in SFK? Sometimes even sooner since some classes get a weapon at level 20 for a class quest (like Warlock).
Let alone the fact that casters get almost entirely decked out in that dungeon for breathing.
Thankfully, the only one that has to listen to your wife, and deal with her aggro, is you. I’ve got enough on my hands worrying about my own wife’s feelings, much less yours
You defeated your own argument right here bub. In the above WC scenario. The staff is 100% better suited for the warrior than any caster in the group, full stop.
What you meant to say is, “if an item fits another class’s fantasy archetype better”.
What I’m suggesting is based on logic, and mechanics.
I think it’s safe to say that anyone in the game would care about getting an item that they see as valuable. I’m not really sure what you’re getting at there.
I’m with you that the staff is objectively valuable to you for damage, no questions there. All I am saying is that before you just immediately roll on it, take the opportunity to communicate with your party WHY you’re rolling on it.
No I didn’t lol. It’s better suited for another class because it has “spirit” in it. You can’t even use spirit. Much more intellect or anything else that typically rolls on a staff. Therefore it’s not for you. You gonna make the same arguments with shields. You gonna roll on intellect shields over shamans because it has block on it? Makes no sense. That item is made for other classes. Regardless of weapon damage.
This is exactly the point I’m trying to make as well. You won’t make many friends by taking a staff from a caster who may not understand why it is an upgrade for you.
While this is something that I personally have done on any and every piece of gear I have rolled on in a dungeon (even though I’m mostly running with guildies), I’m not sure it should be necessary for something that is actually an upgrade.
Though, perhaps as this isn’t necessarily obviously an upgrade for a warrior to people, such that this post exists, then that’s a decent enough point.
simply not fair for the reason that classes other than plate wearers can use a smaller subset of weapons and armor, and for that reason - those items should be given to them first. Only if and when the whole group or guild agrees that a main tank or something similar can roll on a particular item should this be attempted.
Consider for a moment that a priest cannot wear plate, no matter how good the stats for healing are, and if the roles were reversed and you could only wear plate and only use two handed swords - how incensed you’d be if other classes started taking them because they had the right stats/damage. Well that’s what cloth wearers have to deal with here - I, as a tank/plate wearer would NEVER roll on another class’ items in classic. But still some guilds are more lenient about this to clear content. It was sometimes even common for pally healers to wear benediction (priest) armor to clear raids, because of the stat boosts. Communication is key on this stuff, but i think basically it’s their items, it’s all they can use.
I don’t care how many leather wearers are in my group in RFC, when as a warrior with gray gloves, leather str/agil gloves drop, I’m rolling need…OBVIOUSLY.
Nothing when things die too fast for casters to run out of mana in the first place. Mainly due to the fact the warrior is now doing double damage.
Spirit is a useless stat on anyone besides arguably a healer early game because chances are you straight up do more damage with your want than spells. Our warlock doesn’t even use shadowbolt because it costs way too much mana compared to just multi-dotting and wanding. Same for the priests and smite.
Yea I don’t really know why I’m trying to get through to him. The above scenario is a nearly 100% damage increase, and he’s willfully choosing to interpret it as “a minor upgrade”.
Here I copied this from a reliable site so you would know what spirit does. “It allows a portion of spirit based mana regeneration to continue while casting, making it a useful stat for sustained damage and healing”.
Blizzard won’t allow me to include Links in this post but it’s from wowwiki
This also doesn’t even take in account the limited availability of weapons for other classes. While you can use nearly every weapon in the game other classes can’t. Classes line mages, priests, and warlocks don’t have near the options you do so by you rolling on staves that limits them substantially whereas you can simply roll on any other 2 hander available which blizzard developed plenty for your specific class
Regardless of what you think is good for you or not you will get kicked from groups for rolling on NON-WARRIOR items. Meaning a staff. Especially if your not tanking. It’s selfish behavior and i wouldn’t tolerate it in my groups. I would imagine most others wouldn’t either. As a warrior you have so many weapon options available to you it’s unfair to have you rolling need on other people’s gear. Even if you have the ability to it just makes you a dick.
Can someone explain to a lifelong priest why its important to have high damage weapons on war over just high dps? Is it solely due to things like mortal strike’s ‘does weapon damage’?
If thats the case then is something like rend a waste of rage for killing mobs? Does this only apply once you hit a certain level?
