Yeah no, leveling has been delightful for me. Loving the hell out of it.
The core principle of “weapon damage is valuable to you” is absolutely on point. But come on, don’t be greedy. Just ask your party if they’re okay with you rolling for it. Don’t be one of those guys who hoards every single weapon you can get.
Sorry, your wife need to learn math. That weapon is going to give her almost no actual benefit. Spellpower weapons dont really exist till 60. Post 60, the only staff applicable to warriors is Fish Terminator. Before that, there are tons of good staves and they work better on a melee than they do a caster. Casters pre 60 dont need a weapon at all. It doesnt really help them.
It would literally do her more good to vendor it for the coin to use on skill upgrades than to equip it.
Absolutely. This isn’t about hoarding. This is specifically to point out that if the staff is a significant upgrade to your current dated weapon, you shouldn’t exclude it simply by virtue of the fact that it’s a staff and not say, an axe, sword, or mace.
I’m not saying you need to roll on every staff out there. I’m saying the option is viable, and should absolutely be considered, when significantly higher than your current weapon damage.
Regardless of debatable use, it doesnt excuse or justify the OPs line of thought.
How about he group with a priest and let the drop go to them, making a friend in the process. I would be embarrassed to use a staff as a weapon as a warrior, no amount of min/maxing discussion is going to change that.
I agree it should be considered, but I do think it’s dangerous to not temper people’s expectations. You should really only roll for it if your casters just don’t need it. Mana consumption is important to keep track of, and if a group member is low on spirit gear, this staff could be very valuable to them.
Thank you for confirming that all of your apprehension is rooted in presumption, labels, and ingrained beliefs, rather than open minded reason, logic, and an actual understanding of class mechanics.
Lots of dumbos in this thread. OP is 100% correct and if someone isn’t smart enough to see why the weapon is an upgrade for a Warrior then that’s on them.
You must of played a hunter. You sound like a hunter lol. Doesn’t matter why you feel u need it. If an item is better suited for another player, especially when it’s blue, you shouldn’t be screwing other classes so you get a minuscule damage boost. Most of us aren’t spamming dungeons. I would imagine most people will down a dungeon or two every 10 levels. So if that staff drops that’s for their class then you have no right to be rolling on it unless they have explicitly stated they don’t want. This same reason is why hunters were made fun of so much during vanilla. They literally rolled on anything and said “it’s an upgrade”. To finally see that item drop you’ve been looking for to be outrolled by a warrior or hunter specifically because they could use the particular item even though it wasn’t designed for them was extremely irritating. After this post I feel like we should all be rolling on 1 handers and shields to piss odd the warriors. Well I could use it so…l
The problem is the “spirit is good for not going OOM” argument is a bit of a fallacy. Spirit is an awful stat. For everyone. The way it worked in vanilla is that it would only kick in via natural regen if you hadn’t been casting for 5 seconds, which isn’t realistic in any combat scenario you actually risk going OOM in. There’s a reason why MP5 was far and away the superior stat at endgame raid levels, and why Horde complained for so long that Allies and their Pallies had a competitive edge in that regard.
That’s a rather hostile attitude to have. Not everyone is a min/maxing perfectly efficient machine to churn out optimal results.
I play the game to have fun, and I enjoy running people through dungeons, hell once I hit 60 I plan on making money by just offering to tank dungeons for people at any level. Not everyone is going to have an EJ understanding of game mechanics. Some people want to just play and learn it on their own, and that should be encouraged. That’s what vanilla was, everyone (devs included) trying to learn and figure out the wonderful quirks to this game.
