I’m coming back from a 2-ish month break. I can’t handle League day in and day out.
I’m also going back to Alliance, as much as I love vulpera.
So, for my new main, would you go with warrior (arms / prot), or evoker (aug / pres)?
For warrior, I enjoy the theme. Extreme physical strength is cool to me, and having spells like ignore pain and spell reflect and demolish and all that is fun. That said, the class is a little… repetitive? I donno a better way to put it. Like it’s designed in a way that I can fall into muscle memory and stop thinking about what I do, even in high-ish keys (13-14s) and raiding. But I get to be a race I actually enjoy (gnome), and I can transmog my character.
For evoker, I DESPISE dracthyr, I HATE it with a passion, and I cringe every time I see my character. That said, they have really cool animations, like upheaval’s cast animation (where your evoker makes a bigger gesture based on the charge level) and how they slam the ground after and all that is really cool, and aug is my favorite spec in the game that I don’t get bored of, and pres is probably one of my favorite healers just due to how different it is. But, again, I DESPISE dracthyr, and I can’t use transmog. I like having a cute character, and I can’t make my evoker cute in the slightest.
Which would you pick? A class that is fun but gets old after a while, but has access to transmog and I can make her cute, or a class that is ugly as sin, has no visual appeal at all, but has gameplay I legit do not get tired of?
Visage form isn’t any better bro. I’d be a human female, the literal worst model in the game with an animation rig / skeleton from 20 years ago complete with horrible proportions, terrible armor stretching, and horrible animations.
As much as I hate dracthyr, they’re far, far better built than human female.
And yes, the moment you cast 95% of your spells (some don’t trigger it, like living flame), you poof into ugly dragon form and you’re stuck like that until combat ends.
I’ve felt the same way about Dracthyr, but really enjoyed Devastation and found workarounds in my head to be okay with it. Soar helps, soar feels awesome.
Just be aware that if you pug, Aug is not particularly popular anymore. Its been getting buffed to a point where now its only bad rather than the absolute worst, but you’ll likely spend significant time looking for groups. Granted, DPS warrior isn’t exactly a top pick either, but you sounded like you’re more into Prot anyway.
Yeah, I do enjoy soar, and I enjoy the spell / casting animations a ton, things like hover and time anomaly and whatnot are cool too. I also love sorcerers from D&D, mages who cast from talent rather than science / practice / whatever.
But they’re just Deviant Art furry OCs level of dumb looking, they’re designed to be super androgynous so I can’t make her look like a girl, and no transmog.
idc if it takes a while to get into groups, I usually just run my own keys anyway since I play alone. But before I took a break, I couldn’t time 13s due to low DPS – though now aug isn’t the lowest DPS, there’s like 3 DPS below it, so that means I can time any key I want to since those other classes can.
And no, prot is like an off off off spec. I don’t like tanking, I just have it because I leveled as tank, and could use it for pouches of augment runes. I’d mostly be playing arms.
Because every other class also puts me to sleep. Warrior is just one of the less egregious ones.
But like, gameplay wise, I love aug and have since DF. It’s my favorite spec and I never get tired of playing it. Pres can get boring, but it’s really fun in demanding situations – and I can always go back to aug.
Go Gnome Warrior. The fact that you capitalized that strong emotional response to Dracthyr says everything, lol. Expressing your creativity through transmog and playing a solid class with your favorite race sounds like a winner to me.
Does anyone know if costumes work on the Dracthyr? It’s not a permanent solution, but there is so many costumes in the game nowadays you could play quite a bit using knick-knacks or whatever to look like something other than the Dracthyr.
