I am really torn. Im pretty new to game. I know I want a plate wearing melee class for aesthetics, and Paladin is a no go for me. Since both have 2 Melee DPS specs and a Tank option, they are both equally appealing to me.
Its going to take me probably a month or so to level up to 60 as I am really busy IRL, but plan on M+ and maybe a few raids here and there (more LFR than anything I think) in a couple months and that will be my focus.
So I know no one has a crystal ball, but in a month or two, which specs of DK and Warrior will be in good or better spot once stats and gear start scaling? Or is it impossible to know?
I think DK is going to be in the spot they’re in right now and they have one of the best Tanking specs, and their Unholy, despite the nerf, is still a solid DPS class.
Warrior is a junk class at the moment minus one DPS spec. It’s the worst Tank spec, you literally have to work 2x as hard as other classes and you’re still relatively squishy compared to them, and they have a totally junk DPS spec.
After deleting over 20 some characters, I still have 4 of each left. Warriors have much better movement. The best DK spec is Unholy while doesn’t flow well for me.
I spend most of my time in the world or old raids / dungeons.
My opinion:
Blood DK > Proc warrior in world content.
Frost DK = Fury Warrior in old content.
Never felt comfortable with Arms or Unhoy despite really wanting to like both.
If going purely by my own fun factor, Fury warrior is my favorite to play
There purely subjective answers with no information on what works best in SL endgame
I would also add to this that gearing is easier with DKs than Warriors if you plan on doing more than one Spec. DKs can be good with one 2h, while Warriors need 2 2h, 1 1h, and a shield for all their equipment options, and we haven’t even looked at Trinkets yet.
Yeah, having 2 1h is useful for DKs who want to use Frost regularly, but it isn’t as literally required as it has been for the last 2 expansions.
I don’t think either class is in a particularly great place now… but I would say Warrior is currently worse off. Just think - the last class balancing patch gave Fury Warriors an 8% buff across the board save two abilities for how far behind it was.
That said, if mobility is important to you, and who doesn’t like being able to get from point A to B without a migraine, Warrior is still fundamentally superior.
If the Death Knight had gotten presences back, and had the old 10% passive movement buff from Unholy back, that would be one thing, but Death Knights are just about if not the least mobile class.
I play both. Since you’re new, you may not realize that the developers are always tweaking class power/balance. So this month’s balance may change next month regarding warrior/death knight power.
The best advice is to play a class trial for both, and play them for an hour to get the feel for their gameplay.
DK’s are a slow methodical class. Because of how runes/runic power works, you are limited in how fast you can perform your abilities until you get a lot of Haste rating to speed up your runes. This is hard for new players to get into sometimes.
Warriors do not do well until they have a lot of stats. Warriors are less resilient than Death Knights, so that is something to think about. But Warriors have a mobility that DK’s can only dream about with their leaps and charges.
Lets see. You can be a big idiot who swings around a slab of metal as big as he is and calls that fighting, or you can be a big idiot who swings around a slab of metal as big as he is and is undead.
Both can be fun, but in my experience DK is less hit or miss with it.
All three specs have an excellent and distinct fantasy, the class has amazing lore, and the armor sets are spectacular.
Warrior has no class lore. Fury typically only feels like a berzerker about half the time. Arms is a bit better, but suffers due to pvp viability. Namely, pvp nerfs often hit this spec the hardest.
Prot warrior is thee historical baseline for tanks. The template. But this means they end up feeling pretty bland by comparison. Its a solid spec, and fulfills the theme.
warrior if you would prefer to charge and smash… Dk if you would prefer to pull your enemies to you and infect… Dk has more self heals… The biggest appeal to me though is always that charge mechanic, I love playing a warrior for that reason, charge --> heroic leap --> charge again, something satisfying about it. The dk fantasy for me is always the self heals /deathgrip/vader choke.
