So, like many of you I’m still struggling to pick my class. I’ve narrowed it down to warrior, druid and mage. I would like to play a class that can tank (or possibly heal) while leveling and at endgame. The challenge of tanking as well as ability to easily find groups is definitely appealing. That said, my time will be more limited in Classic than it was in vanilla so gearing multiple sets might be a challenge.
I played a druid in vanilla and had a great time. I played resto so I know they’re capable there. Not sure about gearing for feral. Stigma and gearing multiple sets is a downside. Versatility in dungeons and PvP is a huge plus.
I’ve never played a warrior in classic, but they’re known as “THE” tanks. Probably won’t have time to be an MT in raids, but fury dps with occasional off tank responsibilities sounds great as well as the ability to always find a dungeon group. Gearing for fury dps, tank/off tank, and PvP seems a bit of a reach.
As a third option purely for easy life and just all around fun is the mage.
I’ve enjoyed their comfort of life benefits while leveling, strength and versatility in PvP, AOE leveling/farming ability, and dungeon/raid utility. Finding groups won’t be as easy as if I was a tank, but they only need 1 gear set. Also, I couldn’t try tanking with them.
Let me know what you think I should choose and why!
Since time is a factor, I’d consider the druid or mage as both of them level much faster for solo play. Although you could arguably dungeon spam as a tank assuming you can find decent players to run with so it doesn’t lead to a 4 hour long wipe fest.
Try all three, and see which one ‘clicks’ the most.

If you’re really looking forward to to tanking, suck it up and go warrior. Druids are fine and all for dungeons but they’ll never beat a warrior in a raid. Plus, you can always play fury while not tanking and that’s fun.
If you just want to have any easy time, I’d say go mage. Great burst, great CC, easy to get around the world, just lots of fun.
Of course hunters will wreck you in PvP
If you’re on the fence on a couple classes, just go with Druid. That way you can get a little tank, healer, or caster flavor whenever you feel.
You just won’t be endgame tanking much, so if your heart is set on that, you’ll probably just have to go Warrior.
Well, I mean druids definitely CAN tank anything at endgame (with very few exceptions). Also, there’s no way you can say a mage and a druid are comparable casters. It’s like saying a warrior and a hunter can both do ranged melee dps.
Druids are really easy to level, but they are kind of a jack of all trades at 60. Warriors are better tanks and dps and mages are better dps.
I am old.
So what I think is…
Stop asking strangers who can’t even decide what to eat for breakfast and put in the research yourself please. It’s YOUR $15 a month. Just saying.

Good, we agree, because I wasn’t comparing mages and druids as casters.
Notice how I said a “little caster flavor”, my dude.
Edit: My whole point was to play the class that can do every play style you were going back and forth on. Maybe you’ll find a style that clicks and switch to a more focused class, or maybe you’ll still be indecisive over a main after playing a while. Who knows?

Judging by your post, level a mage. It seems like you want to focus more on playing a character than managing a character, and mage will definitely allow that.

My comment was in response to someone else about the mage.
Playing your character rather than having to managing it. I like that. I don’t think you’ll really find it that difficult or time consuming though.
If you don’t have a lot of time to commit, I would not recommend warrior as they are the greatest time sink and need raid gear to really start being a force. Druids are fun to level, but be prepared to be expected to heal only after you hit 60. I’d say go mage.
Oh my bad, thought my notifications said I got a reply. I must have mixed it up with a different topic.

mage have portals and free food.
Easy money&time saving
True. Druids can port to moonglade whenever, they get cat and travel form, they can heal out of combat, and can regen mana in forms. Kind of offsets?
who wants to play some wizard in the forest, when you can spam frostbolt an frost nova
I thought this same situation through myself and here was the pros and cons I noted to come to a semi decision.
Druid - Fun healer, but generally only 1-2 taken and HoTs dont stack meaning Druids passed the first are boring to play imo. Can tank, but tanking as a Druid was really boring for me on Nost as a Druid. Swipe/Maul, and their version of Demo shout is pretty much it until you get frenzied rejuv, but basic may be what you want. They can offtank all through raiding and offheal and technically offDPS. Its the only actual hybrid class that gets to be a hybrid.
Mage - Easy life, but boring life. AoE leveling can be fun imo. Being able to travel feels HUGE. Can make easy money off of selling TPs, but, lets be real. You seem to be sounding like a PvE guy and Mages are just literally 1 spell class unfortunately in that area. They felt half thought through to me honestly. Arcane Missiles could have been a fun weaving idea with clear casting procs, but eh… 1 button and AM exist for no apparent reason. Overall once leveling is done seems like a snore fest.
Warrior - Absolutely brutal time leveling, but also the most exciting to level to me. Being the most gear dependent means every upgrade you get is way more exciting than most classes. A weapon upgrade, hell, just a mail upgrade feels amazing. Night and day differences while gearing up and a power creep that feels truly awesome. Tanking keeps you on your toes, tons of things to manage and balance to truly be the best tank. Also probably the games best hybrid. Not by name of course, but by role. Few to no classes, even most hybrids, boast 2 roles they excel at, hell, I dont think any class does actually outside of Warrior. The most exciting rotation by far imo and just the diversity of roles and choices at end game I can tell you once you get there its 100% worth it and you will love your choice. Downside… Seems like everyone wants to be Warrior because of this. Upside, almost none of those people want to actually Tank. Form your own groups, form your own guild, as a Warrior you choose your life and no Class gets to boast that. You will be what everyone wants. You will be GOD! A God with more responsibilities than most though. People will look at you for advice, expect you to know dungeons and boss mechanics while they afk in the back judging. You are the worst gold maker in the game and have the highest repair bills.
Overall. I give it to Warrior. Its just that much fun.

So I have to say that I’ve kind of narrowed it down to mage and druid actually. You said you think I’m mostly a PvE guy, but I’ve really enjoyed the hell outta mage in PvP. The time commitment to tank on a warrior seems too much to me. Druid feral leveling is great and you can pretty much do anything with a heart of the wild / NS spec all game. Druid just seems easier and more versatile overall than warrior.
Like I said PvP is actually important to me. I’ve seen people playing druids at an insane level but back when I used to play them all I did was heal in BGs. I know how to PvP on a mage and the control and easy burst damage is just super fun. I don’t know if I’ll be good enough at druid to enjoy it the same way is my only fear.
So what I’ve whittled it down to is: druid for leveling, group versatility, tanking, gearing for different roles, etc. VS mage for quality of life, more straight forward gearing, literally a blast (pun intended) to play in PvP, low armor but great control.
Hmmm…
