WARRIOR DPS and why you should be one!

I hope this post encourages you to be a Warrior DPS in PvE.

Warrior is OP in 1.12 - we top DPS logs from preBiS to Naxx, here’s why:

  1. Highest gear scaling of any class (20AGI = 1%crit and 1%dodge, 1STR = 2AP) We get strong fast and stay dominant, easily.
  2. Absurdly powerful endgame utility: +290AP Shout, -2250Armor Sunder, stuns, spell cancels, disarm, fear, slow, mitigation, etc.
  3. Tanking skills so good that we can tank in our DPS spec. That’s right, you can tank without a single Prot talent.

Leveling: Don’t give up! It’s easy:

  • Try to form or get into Melee Cleave groups for dungeon elite exp bonus
  • 5/5 Parry in the Arms tree is great for leveling (easy mitigation on top of our base 5%)
  • 3/3 Heroic Strike is great for leveling too (it’s 40% of your DPS, afterall)
  • Try tanking, you’ll be in high demand (also, be upfront about what gear you want or avoid parties with too many melee DPS)
  • Try to do quests when they are Yellow or Green if soloing
  • Try to grind on mobs for exp (skinnables like turtles are the best)

Try to get Hit+ 9% for skill hit cap. You can start with these preBiS items:

  • Blackstone Ring - Drops of Princess in Maraudon
  • Blackcrow - Drops off Vosh’gajin in LBRS
  • Truestrike Shoulders - Drops off Emberseer in UBRS
  • Battleborn Armbraces - Drops of Rend in UBRS
  • Brigam Girdle - Drops off Drakkisath in UBRS
  • Mask of the Unforgiven - Drops off Unforgiven in Stratholme
  • Voone’s Vice Grips - Maxwell’s Mission Quest Reward

Rotation: Bloodthirst> Whirlwind> HS/Cleave> Overpower> Execute (Spam @20%)

Well there it is, now you’re ready to roll the best DPS in the game :ok_hand:

Good luck, Warriors!

I’ll be sticking with Shaman.

Somebody has to heal the Warrior after they go nuts and pull the boss 0.02 seconds after the tank pulls.

But if I don’t roll Warlock who will knock you down a peg or two every so often?

I may or may not have caused a couple of wipes before by pulling threat during Execute spam…

Hehe, I need Warlocks like you in my raid team.

I’m already dreading Vael since our core team has like 8 fury in it.

Do you get to raid in a pretty, pretty dress?

Didn’t think so, Deus Vult!

It’s true, so many will start the journey, so few will reach the top and wear brown.

1000 to 1200 DPS was a lot in Vanilla…

I would argue rend isnt a waste, heroic strike prevents your next white hit, so its actual rage cost will be the base cost (15 untalented) + rage you would have generated from your next swing (with a 2h that could potentially be alot of rage). The bonus damage from heroic strike is ussually only slightly higher after the mitigation from mob armour so really you would be getting better dmg per rage using rend as opposed to spamming heroic strike.

You misspelled “rogue.”

It’s a waste. Rend isn’t based on weapon damage, it does a third as much damage as a single Heroic Strike over 21 seconds. Also, Heroic Strike cannot glance on hit, only hit or crit. It’s very strong and a much more efficient use of rage over Rend. You’ll want to be able to Heroic Strike one more time per fight rather than use that rage on a single Rend, especially with a 2H.

Rend does have a use though - in PvP to stop stealthing and when you’re tanking Majordomo, you can maintain on his table after threat wipes because of the Rend dot.

As a warrior you get to be the leader that everyone follows around. Feel free to dispense cryptic advice on occasion and let people think it over.

Remember Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star? Warrior.
