If you’ve made the mistake of choosing a server on a different timezone than your own (e.g.: Pacific server when you’re on Eastern), this is a fair warning that most raiding will happen primetime server time.
I did this in the past and it cost me. I had a very hard time finding a guild whose raids started before 11PM Eastern.
I currently live in California, but I chose an east coast server because I will be moving there in the near future. But thank you for the warning for those who had not thought of this.
While I agree I will say I rolled on Grobbulus as an East coast player simply because it’s the only rp-pvp server.
I’ve got about 10 other guys planning on playing so I’m sure we can find some other east coasters on the server.
specifically chose eastern even though im pst because i do not stay up late anymore but this will let me play with other late night raiding guilds hehe
I’m rolling east coast specifically for this. I’m west coast but work early and get off early. 5:00 pm raid my time sounds great.
I think the RP servers are kinda exempt from this rule for the simple fact that there is only one of them at this point. Though i have seen more than a few people say they would go closer servers that were non rp over Worries of Ping.
i get off at 4 pst but ill have dinner at 5 and looking to raid at 6 pm until 9:30 pm maybe hehe although i could start at 5:30 but we will see…
Yeah, it will be fine if picking the closest timezone available. There will be most of the people in your timezone on your server. The only problem is if someone picks a server that isn’t the closest timezone to them that is available.
That said, I’ve often suggested to people to play on a different timezone server if they work 3rd shift or something. Find a server whose prime time lines up with yours.
Well I am CST so I had to choose which server/time zone best suits my play schedule.
Went with Thalnos EST because the server is only a -1 hour difference from me verses PST which is +2 hours ahead of me.
This is a fair warning that we live in 2019 and people have come a long way from the olden days when we used a string and tin cans to connect to the internet.
People on a server will be from ALL sorts of time zones. It is up to the guild you are in to set the time of raids and events.
Should you think about the timezone? Sure, a little.
Should you let the false information that this is how things work in a global world? Is it a big deal if you play on an East server while living in Cali? No. . That is silly.
Oh, and ping between the 2 coasts is not game-breaking either. But I know LOTS think it is. Cause… Reddit science or something?

This doesn’t notably apply to the RP-PVE and RP-PVP servers since the whole country only gets one choice.
