Warlords of draenor had so much potential

Is anybody else still disappointed that they gave up on warlords of draenor?

I mean…

1.The whole ogre island that was seen in early beta maps of draenor.

2.Holes in the story due to them obviously cutting 1 or 2 major patches (raids and other contents).

  1. We had the best leveling experience ever and the content outside of raids kind of just died for long long periods of time between patches (selfy patch).

Warlords of draenor started so well (the BEST leveling, Best Soundtrack, great art) and its a real huge shame what happened to that timeline.

What a wasted opportunity…

They didn’t give us arakkoa. That alone makes WoD the biggest waste of potential ever.

The entire premise of the expansion was ridiculous. Even compared to the expansion that preceded it, which was Kung-Fu Pandas.

I’m sorry, kinda anyways, I was not a fan of the concept of WoD. I generally just don’t like timetravel. The dungeons were cool because they were fairly stand alone and let us see significant events. But an entire time travel expansion…

I mean you say potential but it’s hard for me to agree. They somehow misunderstood all the relatively legitimate criticisms of dailies in MOP giving us no end game content. The questing was well received, but I wasn’t a fan. The cut content from Gorgrond completely ruined the storyline. No one can say Ogrim was a good character because he just randomly does a complete personality change from one quest to the next. I was the commander of the offensive but had no clue a bunch of blood elves showed up out of no where to fight? What was up with that? Thrall shows up to kill steal Garrosh at the end of the nagrand story line for no reason but to really tick me off? The garrison now that was a big waste of potential I loved the concept of it. Then there was that scam they pulled with flying.

To say potential I can’t just go off words I go off what I get my hands on, and WoD really never was a compelling expansion to me.

Like to me BFA is wasted potential. I actually really liked it for a few weeks, aside from having to reroll a couple days in because I chose druid and it was completely nonviable initially. But man they really botched Mythics, why would you try to make an esport out of dungeons?

Daily reminder that the Pandaren have existed since Warcraft 3 and pre-date Kung-Fu Panda by about six years.

It’s the best they can come up with to attack it. Have pity.

I didn’t get into WoW at all until Warlords of Draenor happened, but everyone I talk to on FF14 and all who played WoW was like, “Man, Mists of Pandaria was the best expansion but no one noticed until Draenor sucked…”

I still still think Wrath was the best, but MoP was definitely #2 for me. I know a lot of people liked Legion too, but I wasn’t able to play for most of that expansion.

Honestly the Pandaren starting zone is my second-favorite starting zone, right behind the death knight one. I love Pandaria. It’s so beautiful and I love how much care and love went into it.

I’m partial to Blood Elf’s starting zone myself, but I do keep meaning to try a Pandaren out sometime.

The blood elf starting zone is great too. I just really liked the Pandaren one.

There are honestly things I like about every expansion I’ve played, even BFA (my least favorite thus far). For MoP, it was definitely the Pandaren and the experience around them. Also pet battles. I love battle pets so much.

I never played the RTS Warcraft games, but I learned some of the story on YouTube. I’m curious, what role did they play in WC3?

Someone on the art team really liked pandas and peppered them around all over the place (Illidan’s blades even have angry panda faces on them). In the expansion Blizzard added a joke panda brewmaster class as a hero you could buy from the neutral taverns in multiplayer matches. There was also an optional one you could pick up in the Orc campaign.

I see. So nothing integral. No wonder I never saw anything. But was there any mention of their lore and world at all?

Originally the Pandaren were an April Fool’s joke that were added into WCIII due to their positive reception.

There’s a bonus campaign available in WCIII where Rexxar and his Pandaren ally Chen Stormstout do tasks such as fight against Jaina’s tool of a father and aid in establishing Orgrimmar.

I see.

Makes me wonder how whether or not Blizz was just biding their time to bring in the Pandaren or just randomly remembered when trying to think of the next expansion at the time.

For me the xpack was doomed the second I realized they were trying to “revive” old characters of lore by timetraveling, one of, if not the cheapest plot device to ever exist in entertainment media.

Yes, absolutely.

Considering how freaking AMAZING BRF was as a raid, how interesting a concept the Iron Horde was, the potential with the Ogre’s and Arakkoa, the Shattrath Raid that was going to be a thing, ect. I am very disapointed how things ended.

Its still there, bottom left of the Draenor World Map is the Ogre main continent.

I… Would not go that far, it certainly was a nice change of pace and the events were cool! It was a bump up from what we had prior in many regards. It is hard to say “best” though because I am honestly a fan of the older way of things with Classic and TBC in terms of the journey having more meaning.

I feel like both have their own merits though. WoD certainly felt a lot more fun to level through for the first time vs MoP and such.

But yeah, I fully agree that its a shame how things turned out.

One missed opportunity in my opinion was that they never added the train system to the overworld. That would have been cool as heck to see~ Not to mention it would have probably been the death of many a player character XD

Also, I feel like this belongs in General Discussion vs Classic Discussion.

I liked WoD visually and thematically. Sure the main premise wasn’t great (neither was that of Legion) but the general lore of Draenor was interesting and the conflicts between clans felt more “down to earth”, which is similar to vanilla.
The zones also look great and there’s this all-pervading sense of mystery, which is amplified by the lack of content as some zones feel empty and you can’t but to wonder about what could have been.

The cut content could have been added later, but the butchering of classes and nonsense like garrisons doomed it all.

Worst Expansion ever in the history of games, all games ever! Big wobbly pandas, horrible
