Warlocks:Advice on when to use Rain of fire?

I’m level 42 and I’ve been told “as a warlock main I hate how much you use RoF” can someone tell me when EXACTLY to use this move? It’s hard because I use it on big mobs but it pulls enemies as well. Please give me advice. Should I just always curse instead?

its pretty useless tbh. hellfire is a better aoe, but kills you lol.

warlocks are the true tanks of classic because they don’t need the armor or shield unlike other classes. Don’t use rain or fire ever. Show your pride and be up and personal. Hellfire for double the damage. Go big or go home.

(Unless your raid leader says otherwise)

At level 42 in a dungeon, you should only be using AoE when there is another AoE in the group and everyone is on board with just AoEing everthing. You’ll need to give tanks a few seconds lead time to build threat on a group.

With that said, throwing up a few DoTs on the main target and a single DoT on everything else before shadowbolting whatever the current target is, is fine too.

It really depends on the party.

When to use Rain of Fire: never.

Good example is Molten Core using Rain of Fire on Imps because blastwave they do will kill you

Slime packs in Naxx you use Rain of Fire

RoF has a use in certain circumstances - the Hall of Secrets in Scholomance, the imp packs in BWL, the Construct wing slimes.

However, most of the time you’ll be using Hellfire or rolling DoT (depending on the number/health of targets) because these techniques deal more damage.

It doesnt kill you, it just drains your red mana bar a bit.

I prefer it when they use hellfire because that has a chance at killing gnomes.

In dungeons I’ll dot 3 mobs then RoF. That’s pretty much all I ever use it though.

The only times I use rain of fire are:
When I’ve got a weak tank and the mobs will pound my face in if I hellfire.
Goblin engineer trash packs in BWL.

That’s about it really.

When a bunch of other mages are casting Blizzard so what you do becomes irrelevant.

Apparently tech packs is the ideal time.
