So, after a few days of doing insane/broken damage, it’s nerfed into the ground.
Which, a) totally fair but b) why do we still have it in our spell books?
This thing is so useless and clunky it’s never used. It’s the kind of spell a new player casts once out of curiosity, blinks, then takes it off their bar never to touch again. In fact… it’s SO useless I’m going to go out on a limb and suggest it’s the single most pointless spell any class has. It’s a ritual, I suppose and looks kind of cool, but no one touches the thing.
Kill it with fire or, alternatively, find a way to make it useable but a bit of a skill cap to use.

I’ll say the same thing I said on the other, slightly older thread:
Fantasy.
A ritual done by a bunch of people in a circle, one of them gets sacrificed to summon a big bad Demon.
That’s what Warlocks are supposed to be all about.
It’s not supposed to be used as a core part of gameplay because it’s cumbersome and probably not fun for the player who gets sacrificed, but we have to be able to do it.

I remember when it’d spawn from casting the spell Doom on something and having it die. Now that, was fantasy. I doomed you to be my sacrificial lamb to spawn in a Doomguard.
I miss our classes original fantasy.

Sure - but when the result is so useless? It’s not much of a fantasy. And we already gather to summon people and drop altars down in every raid/instance.
If a fantasy is worth leaning into? Lean into it. Find a way to make the spell useable (if complex). But at this stage? Might as well be a toy you earn while levelling.

You know, this kind of kludge is exactly what people kind of liked about Classic WoW. They should try to make it optimal for some spec, but just barely so it’s generally not worth it unless you just want to goof around. Alternatively, just disable it entirely except for open world but make it really OP for open world content, it would be really amusing for WPvP.
And I didn’t even get the chance to summon one to test it out in raid this week ;-;
Because yeah. No one wants to be a sacrifice.

That’s exactly what it is. It’s just a toy like the druid critters follow spell.
I couldn’t imagine being bothered enough by RP in an RPG that I’d make a forum post about it.
It’s there for that week every few years where they accidentally buff it. it actually was nasty damage for about first 2.5 weeks of remix. Ridiculous long cool down and ridiculous requirements for mediocre spells should not be a thing.
it was fun while it lasted, Doomguard’s damage was like 10% of my damage other night.
I wish they would make it strong. Like for real it takes 5 players to summon and kills one and requires the lock to subjugate.
Making all that summon a vanity pet that does so-so DMG is saddening. It was strong broken ATM but they should make it an option but then everyone would of been using it.
Now I’m suspicious of all the current warlock logs. >_>
(Showing my age in this one) a Doomguard had a 10% chance to spawn if doom killed the target. It wasn’t until mid Blackwing Lair, that Blizzard added Ritual of Doom.
