I’m hoping it’s just bugged, and that they fix it soon. drain life isn’t worth being bound as it is right now sadly.
Drain life became useless because of that garbage af soul rot spell they added and kept from shadowlands. Remove that and they might actually buff it.
I feel like wet tissue the entire time i leveled from 70 to 80. and still feel that way at 80. None of the healing from corruption or soul leech feels like it actually works. If i throw out 10 withers my health should be bouncing back and forth not immediately nose diving against regular mobs.
Our strength as a class has always been the passive tankiness we could build up. But right now its pathetic. Hell Soul link doesnt even feel like its working.

New dark pact tallent in hell caller heals us every 1 second while active. Soul Harvester always gives us the soulburn-healthstone effect if selected. Also have accrued vitality still, soul burn - drain life, demonic healthstones, new health pots that heal for 3.5 mil, Lifeblood, Fel Synergy, siphon life built into corruption talent, then Death’s Embrace also increases Drain Life by 30 percent if we fall below 35% hp. Quite a few ways to get back up. Sure, ID with the faster channel spell was nice, but could be interupted all the same. I did notice they also removed the ability of haunt to heal when it came back to us, and of course there used to be a talent that increased that healing done but usually never worth taking over other talents.
5% on siphon life does seem extremely weak, even when using wither.
It’s almost the same hps as fel synergy which is , for lack of a better term, garbage.
We used to not need that.
Warlock sustain is outrageously bad right now. Healing and leech used to - and still should - be part of the core class identity.
Our shield, drain life, and siphon life are hot garbage. Meanwhile, my enhancement shaman can maelstrom heal themselves for millions of health every few seconds. My DK can just spam death strike a few times and they’re fine.
Our only notable sustain right now is healthstone which can be given to every other class.
And don’t get me started on health funnel, where I get to destroy my character’s health while hunters just fire and forget mend pet.
It has to be bugged.

Warlock is fine. Bring the other classes in line (fury/frost/etc) and tweak diabolist demo damage/pets then we’re in business. Affliction is super strong rn. Destro might need a little bit more chaos bolt damage.
On topic to the OP, everyone’s self sustain was nerfed pretty heavily. The health stone on CD is pretty wild. It’s basically a lay on hands. Having drain life full heal affliction made DF S4 a boring assa/affli/splay damp fest.
- Healthstone is a nice sustain item, the best one warlocks have, but it can be handed out to everyone which should be factored into the equation
- More importantly, sustain is specifically undertuned on Warlocks, historically one of the best sustain classes - we have spells dedicated for it
For example I’ve tested:
- Shaman healing for 1.2 million on instant cast healing surge
- Paladin word of glory for 1-2 million
- Death knight for 500k per death strike
Not to mention all of the other defensive utility and heals they have.
These classes should keep their sustain, but warlock really should be recalibrated given that those classes can heal themselves every few seconds for huge chunks of their hp.
It doesn’t need to fully heal, it does need to out heal one tick of corruption over its entire duration however.
I don’t think I’ve used Drain Life much as a Demo at anytime to be truthful.
Generally, I rely on Healthstones (now, Demonic Healthstones), mainly as Drain Life hurt DPS too much.
Does anyone even know if soulburn - drainlife even does what the tooltip says? When i try it I don’t see the shield as a buff on my character.
In short, it looks like it works on my end. Prepare to be whelmed can’t post links/images yet, darn
Anyway, I depleted my soul leech first and then cast soul burn-> drain life. Tooltip says 146k shield on 3.7 mil hp character (~4% of max health)
The default UI doesn’t show the magnitude of the shield, but you can check your buffs to see it when it’s active
Do you know if that is actually from the soulburn/drain life or is that your demon skin talent?

I’m continuing to test it, but are you doing it at full health by any chance? It only applies a shield for “amount healed” which requires you to have some hp to restore
I am at full health yes, it shows healing done , but it’s overhealing obviously, i’ll try it with missing health.
