Warlock vs mage

In terms of difficulty which class is easier to get into versus the other and out of their respective specs which do you find more easier to manage and handle?

Depends on if you want to manage different pets, but in my opinion if you’re undecided then start with Warlock. You get your own personal tank no matter which spec you choose unless you decide to sacrifice it. You don’t have to kite nearly as much as a Mage does if you’re trying to solo a nasty rare, for example. For the most part you can stand still and turret. I’ve always been a fan of Destro but I just love flinging Chaos Bolts and have for a long time.

I started this game as a Mage a very long time ago and it’s now one of my least played classes, although I do still find it fun from time to time.

Oh I started as a mage and migrated to a destro warlock and was like you know what having a pet tank doing all the fight for me was like I love this.

i think warlock is probably more comfortable off rip because of the higher durability, the summonable tank, and the strong dps output. i personally also think the specs for warlock are more varied internally than mage, but i’m probably wrong on some numerical metric. plus, aesthetics are better for warlocks.

And plus warlock sets they are unmatched by anything else.

why look like a magical bookworm when you could look like fiery sex adorned in skulls and demonic wrath?

I’ve always found mages easier. It feels like they have more tools for more situations. And you can’t go wrong with portals.

mostly to be able to blow up buildings with a thought, i figure

I play a Fire Mage and Destruction Warlock and the main differences I see are:

  • Warlock is far more tankier especially with pet and much easier to level

  • Fire Mage is more fragile when under geared compared to Warlock and doesn’t do as much damage until one reaches a higher item level.

  • Mage has more mobility while Warlock is tankier and can self res with soulstone.

  • Warlocks get among the best transmogs of any class.

warlocks can do that too! destruction is the name of an entire spec!

Mages are harder to play at a higher level. Other then that depends on what content

the easier between these two depend on spec. if i may rank them from hardest to easiest to play

  1. fire mage
  2. affliction lock
  3. arcane mage
  4. demon lock
  5. destro lock
  6. frost mage

what makes you say afflock is easier than fire mage? as a matter of curiosity

I don’t disagree that frost mage is easy. That really comes down to it being well designed. It’s easy becasuse their spells are clear and distinct in their purpose. Everything flows really well.

More importantly though, frost/frostfire is immensely fun. I think frostfire is the best designed of any of the hero trees. It fits beautifully with the underlying spec and adds just the right amount of flavour. I encourage everyone to try it. It really shows how lackluster some other hero trees are.

Warlock wins in almost every aspect honestly. They’re easier to play, have cooler aesthetics, etc. Only thing mages are good for are portals
