Which of the two class is more played not based on DPS or leaderboards but just for fun and aesthetics?
With zero way to verify how many people play a certain class for funsies, Im going to say mage
That’s really an impossible question to answer since we only have metrics from numbers.
I would imagine Warlock gets more play a more tiers since it’s easier, but that is purely anecdotal.
Warlock. Mages have had a rough couple of expansions and being one of the hardest classes to play properly and maximize their defensive tool kit.
Warlock has also been stronger the last couple expansions.
I would say mage because of its RP elements.
Mages like to perform public tricks and illusions for the sake of fun and entertainment. They also can be powerful spell casters. Yin and Yang.
Warlocks are all Yang, and frowned upon most of the time because of their actions they commit. Nobody wants to haggle with a devil.
I mained Mage from Cata → Legion,
And Warlock from BFA → Now
Mage is way more flashy and their “target dummy rotation” is also more enjoyable IMO.
I prefer Warlock for other reasons, such as I like Fear over Polymorph, I like the bigger HP pools and the health drains of Warlock verse the kiting and negating playstyle of Mage.
My instincts tell me Mage has more mass appeal. But looking at M+ data for this expansion Warlock has consistently had more players which does surprise me.
I think these people saying Mage is hard, never played Frost Mage
But i agree on it when is about Arcane and Fire.
I would say Warlocks because we can Summon Succubi
Arcane is pretty easy now. I’m digging the changes so far.
In a general sense, warlock is a lot easier. They had less buttons, pets for solo’ing, self-sustain like crazy, etc.
Even if mage is easier now, they’ve had a reputation built as being more difficult in general.
my long time favorite class is warlock, especially affliction. but it has been a spec very much out of favor and I have in some times played destro (who doesn’t love big green fire?) i did get my afflock to a 2k m+ rating in s3 just because it was the least played in m+.
I think the average player (whatever that might mean) would gravitate to warlock over mage. they are a sturdier class and they have a pet to protect them.
I think mage is a difficult class to play well. I have a hypothesis that perhaps the very best players in the game are mage players.
maybe that is why i am just mediocre at mage
ITT: A Goblin who is a DUI Court Ordered Defense Attorney who moonlights as a Used Mount Salesperson, who puts snake oil products on the receipt for further profit.
I think I just need to play it and figure it out for myself.
Some people are saying it’s super easy, others are saying it’s complicated with hidden mechanics.
For example Nether Precision is bugged and they’re intentionally leaving it bugged for now?
And somebody said something about cancelling your first 2 Arcane Missiles because the 3rd one does more damage or something, which just sounds awful lol.
That is quite possibly the most subjective question I’ve ever seen on the forums.
That being said, I would say…Warlock, simply because I see them more. Personally, I like the aesthetics of Mage more.
I tend to say mage. I have friends that mained locks, but more friends that mained mage. I’m personally not into the lock lore, so could be biased. Below is the order that i made new alts. Didn’t try a lock until legion.
Hunter
Priest
Shaman
Druid
TBC
Paladin
Mage
Wrath
DK
Rogue
Pandaria
Monk
Wod
DH
Legion
Lock
Warrior
DF
Evoker
I think people that say lol frost mage have no idea how hard mage is to utilize their “defensives” properly.
Mage defensives require someone to be proactive as in using alter time or images before the hit. Maintaining shields and using mass shield before the hits.
While frostiness over complicated you completely misunderstood my points.
as an admitted barely average mage player, I really gravitate to arcane for feel.
arcane mage at the beginning of DF was a nightmare. the whole rune thing was a disaster in my opinon.
I like the streamlining of arcane here in pre-patch. I feel like I can play it fairly well right now.
I’d say arcane is easier than it has been. You still have burst windows that the average player will mess up.
That’s because mesiocre players didn’t know how to bait properly and don’t understand that you’re going to be static when popping CDs anyways.
During a surge window you aren’t moving so tune really wasn’t as big of an issue as mediocre players made it out to be.
