Warlock Voidwalker

Is there something wrong with it aggro-wise? From what I remember from my Vanilla Gnome Lock, Charjuk (even remember his name) could hold aggro at least from the basic DoTs at L12 (no nuking).

I keep hearing this…

In my experience, pulling aggro from blueberry was always a thing. /shrug

Get imp vw at around LVL 15-20

They hold aggro amazingly well in dungeons, if I run one with a warrior tank, I’ll usually have my VW out for the pesky mass non elite mobs, just click the AoE taunt and he can offtank a volley of rain of fire. Or if you see a mob running for a squishy, send in the void to pull back aggro
Keep the AoE taunt off auto so u can manually cast it when needed, and save mana

If going for questing and u want it to tank, wait until it gets a 2nd taunt before dotting, and you’ll be good.

I don’t feel like anything is wrong with mine the Voidwalker would never hold aggro completely. If you are doing drain tanking try this. Let the VW hit first. Dot the mob up. Lifetap while the VW taunts again. Finish it off with life drain or wand. That way the VW will hold aggro a little longer. If you out level the content use your succubus instead and let her get the first hit.

Was always a thing. But, make sure you have your void walker taunt abilities actually being used. Either set it to auto or manual use.

Also make sure you upgrade the talents as soon as possible

Pet taunts in vanilla were always only useful right after you learn the most recent rank.

Void walker is just like a normal tank, if you don’t give it time to generate threat then you will pull off of it instantly. Better off using s succubus honestly. More dps and can end combat faster

Agony + Corruption are the only dots I use with VW for this reason. The upfront damage on Immolation seems to mess up threat. It’s also not very mana effecient so it works out.

For what its worth, here’s my rotation that seems to work pretty well:

  • Pull with Agony
  • Send in VW
  • Corruption
  • Activate wand after second Torment

Just use a Succubus.

It’s higher melee damage will peel threat off of you for about 6-8 seconds at the start of each fight as you cast your DoTs and start charging up a Shadow Bolt, by which point the target will already be at sub-50% health.

Try sending in your VW before you cast DoTs.

60% of the time it works all the time!

VW is about right in my experience. They really cant hold threat well until you get imp vw in the demo tree. Once you get that you still have to be cautious - especially if u have a good wand. For low levels i found Corruption + Agony + Wand was manageable for the most part, but can still peel off your VW

I went full demo back then so my memory may be of Imp VW. I’ll switch to demo as soon as I get instant cast corruption.
Thanks for the quick feedback.

That doesn’t make sense.

When in Rome…

Most speed levelers and private server warlock players do not even bother with the VW, they just use the Imp from 1-60 and kite things, no “drain tanking” or any other stuff like that, they use dots, kiting, fear if needed, and wands.

I have seen a few using the succubus, but that really isnt needed and is normally good for PVP servers where you need to have the CC.

I recently changed up my talents for more damage and draining in the Affliction tree and I’ve been using the Succubus instead of the Voidwalker. I figure if I’m going to pull threat anyway, I might as well be using a pet that’s going to do more damage and give myself an easier way to refill my health and mana.

It’s always better when you just get a new rank of torment on him and then gets worse as you outlevel it again.

Post on your classic character patchs

You have missed out on an amazing movie.

It’s the same as it ever was.

Having said that - I send in the VW, load up all the dots, all 4 of them, lifetap, shadowbolt, reapply corruption, and then drain or wand. Generally, Krakmoth (and the buggy demon lives up to his name) loses aggro just after teh shadowbolt/corruption. At which point it doesn’t matter - I lose 20% health, which isn’t a big deal.

Between normal regen, bandages, cannibalize, and lifetap, I can chain pull 6-8 mobs before I actually have to eat and drink.

It holds aggro well enough to hold 3-4 mobs long enough to nearly kill one, a dot the others to half health while tanking the last one myself.

Remember - you’re a lock, you are also your own tank. With so many health return abilities, losing some every pull isn’t a big deal. If teh VW can hold off mobs for teh first 20 seconds, you should be fine.
