Warlock talent - improved succubus

It increases the duration of Seduction by 30%, increases the effect of soothing kiss by 30%, however, what I want to know is exactly what does it do concerning “lash of pain?” Does it increase the damage of lash of pain by 30%? Lash of pain really doesn’t have an “effect” that I know of. Any insight appreciated. Here’s how the talent reads…

Increases the effect of your Succubus’ Lash of Pain and Soothing Kiss spells by 30%, and increases the duration of your Succubus’ Seduction and Lesser Invisibility spells by 30%.

Yes, increases the damage. Totally not a worthwhile talent to take as lash of pain is a small fraction of the total damage you deal and the rest of the bonuses are minimal.

If you have to take 3 points in Demonology then go for imp or voidwalker. At least you’ll get more stam from the imp or better tanking from the VW. Even the talents that give your pet more mana/health are better.

Agreed, it’s usually not worth taking, most locks will go imp VW if they take any at all, and most locks at 60 will either be sacrificing their pets in parties, have the imp in a tank group, or VW if solo farming

Suc is good if your drain tanking for leveling, but isn’t as viable once u hit 60

Thanks guys. Curious to know if Succubus dps is worth it for demon spec in pve ASSUMING there is already another lock in group with improved imp? I wonder this because imp runs out of mana and kind of just sits there. And if he’s not provided the group with improved blood pact (because another lock is in the 40 man group), is it better to dps with succubus in that scenario?

As far as Sac goes. I’m taking sac regardless. Was thinking for pvp, I’d sac for the bubble and bring out succubus. When it’s all said and done with my demon spec as planned anyhow, I’ll have 4 points to “play with.” those could go into crit, or life tap, but they could also go into the succubus to half the cd on lash of pain, improve damage on lash of pain, and lengthen seduction. I know I’m leading us down the path less chosen, just curious for thoughts. Thanks!

Generally in PvP you’ll sac a vw and IC another VW for double massive shields and no pushback.

If in a party with 2 locks and the other has the imp covered you have 2 options, a suc for more damage, or a VW for offtank.
Generally if a Warr is tanking you’ll want a VW and if a bear you should take Suc. Keep the VW AoE taunt on manual and cast it if something runs for squishies to pull it back
Felhunter is niche, it’s main appeal is devour magic in a PvE party, but you can usually forgo it in 90% of fights.

Every lock should have 2/2 imp life tap, as it scales with shadow damage

Yes, in a group if you have the imp buff from another lock and you don’t need tanking from VW or anti-caster from felhunter then the succubus is the best dps pet. The imp runs out of mana quickly and then does no damage while the succubus gets auto attacks.

Even then, imp succubus isn’t worth the talent points. In PVP you can just re-seduce and the target should be dead in one or two seduces. Either that or the target is taking damage and seduce is meaningless. 30% longer seduce and 30% lash of pain is not worth 3 talent points.

Ah…makes sense. Reading closely Blood Pact “increases stamina of party members,” So does this cover the entire raid or just a group within a raid? Cause that stitches this up pretty fast.

Party only. You are organized into up to 5-man parties in a raid group.

Party, so usually one lock will be SM/ruin spec and assigned to the tank group with an imp, and the rest of the locks will be DS/ruin with a succubus sacrificed.

Other specs can work but in a raid setting you’re not going to be dotting up a Target because of debuff limits. Just spamming shadow bolt and any assigned curses, and this 2 are the strongest, with DS/ruin having 5% higher DPS, but that imp can make a big difference for the tank group, and is a little easier for solo pve

Yup. I’m getting alittle too creative here. This all makes alot of sense.

Never hurts to look at things and ask questions! One thing I hate about demo is there are so many useless talents or ones that get wasted because of demonic sacrifice. Esepecially since you need it to get soul link! What a terrible design.

Demonic sacrifice should be the top talent in destruction, really. Let demonology be all about improving minions, not removing them.

By all means try out off specs,. A demonology lock can solo DM,. LVL 40+ a melee Stam+STR lock with firestone can keep up in DPS until 59.
And if u don’t care about raiding you can go alliance tank spec for 5 man’s, spaming searing pain with damage mitigation from soul link and 0% spell pushback
They just they arnt optimal in a endgame raid setting. But each unique builds that have differing, and fun playstyles that were only available in classic

When you start adding up all the improved damage of both melee demons (succubus) and the warlock from the tree, it looks impressive on paper.

Just a note to the OP,

I remember seeing a video of a streamer who was actually speed leveling using his imp. The fire shield damage plus the imp’s damage made for quick work of melee mobs. In this case 3/3 improved imp is quite powerful. Also, fire shield costs so little mana for the imp but stays up for a long time.

Yes, imp is technically the highest DPS minion you can have out, even out damaging the succubi at most levels
It just requires a different playstyle, and is harder and more technical, but if you can master it is the best for speed leveling.
Not worth in my opinion tho, as u require space to work (triangle max ranges) and it’s just a lot easier and casual to play a traditional way, instead of setting up for each and every mob

Yeah the streamer ((staysafe I think?) was aiming to get to 60 in a week and had done it many times before so that makes sense.

Imp is highest while it has mana but it runs out of mana quickly and then does nothing. The succubus is slightly lower dps but continues to do damage even without mana. Over a long run the succubus will outdamage the imp if you’re pulling continuously.

What do u mean with this part

I recorded some footage yesterday with all the talents buffed/unbuffed (sort of) i just have to watch the data so I can post the results

Yep,. Their are a few good guides on it, but effectively for power leveling you need to macro and time it so your imp can Regen near the end of the fight, as the imp has the highest Regen rate of your pets.
Again, imo. It’s just to technical and macro intensive to make it viable for the majority of players

Theirs an item you can get that reduces the spell pushback if your searing pain ability, and a talent that further reduces the pushback, mixed with a pallys pushback aura. You can reduce pushback on your highest threat attack to 0%
