Warlock Raiding Advice

Hey, all.

Future warlock here as I’ve never levelled one past 18.
I plan on maining one for Classic though, and I also plan on raiding this time around, something I have extremely limited experience with in vanilla.

My main question is about consumables. I always hear the advice that you should show up to raids prepared and that includes the proper consumables and I’m wondering what exactly those might be.

I’ve scoured various guides and searched a bit but they all seem overly complex or based on advanced raids. So I’m looking for a bit of advice on consumables for the initial raids of MC/Onyxia.

For the seasoned warlocks out there, what are the essential consumables I’d need?

I don’t play locks, but in general the rule of thumb is to bring food, water, any mana/health potions and elixers/flasks to help do your job.

Edit: In some cases in vanilla resist gear.

Fire protection pots, shadow protection pots, bandages, any elixirs which increase spellpower or your DPS in some way, restorative potions.

Flask of supreme power is good, but it would probably benefit the guild more to use black lotus for the tanks with flask of the titans. So if you get some black lotus I’d say just donate those to your guild.

For early raids consumables aren’t as important, but you’ll stand out in your guild if you bring them and you probably still should bring some at least.

I figured as much for those items, but I’m looking more for specific consumables that I can help farm materials for, or purchase off the AH that are specifically for warlocks, or casters in general.

Thanks, though!

Hardly anything specific though, you generally want as dealloc said depending on your role in the group stuff to help do damage in the the pots department. If this were wrath instead of vanilla (wrath is faaar better than vanilla in every way) I could suggest some specifics as there were some pretty decent specifics.

Elixir of Shadow Power.

Greater Arcane Elixir.

Flask of Supreme Power.

Any stam or int food will do the trick.

Also its a good idea to have some resistance potions on hand for MC/Ony

Greater Fire Protection Potion.

Beautiful!
That’s exactly what I was looking for. A much simpler list than the guides have out there. Thanks, Krackkillz.

Another important thing as a Warlock is to show up to raid with Plenty of Soul Shards. You may be asked to summon some of the slower moving members of the team or people who were late. Also having the ability to provide mat free healing in the form of Health Stones is a huge bonus for your raid.

Before you are able to obtain hit gear later on in BWL and most importantly ZG, your damage will be sub par and on average will probably be the lowest of the dps classes. But your tool kit of summons, soul stones, health stones, curses and banishes will make you a valuable and required part of any raid team.

Once you get that all important hit gear… OH BOY will you have fun seeing consistently big numbers.

Learn the utility of your pets. An example is the imp which provides the bloodpact buff to the party. sometimes youll be asked to provide this buff for the tank, but since it is affected by range to the imp, the pet has to be stay near the tank. Sometimes though as a ranged dps class being near the boss may be a bad idea. Instead you make the imp stay in a place where you can stay at a safe range and still buff the tank.

And to add to what Nlwde said, keep it phased so it stays alive.

Remember that in Classic, you can have 0, 1, or 2 points in the Improved Healthstone talent. Each of those Healthstones provides different healing and is a separate item. This means three warlocks in the raid can work together and give the tank three differently-valued healthstones for a fight. Instruct them to use the weakest one first, etc. The same goes for offtanks, important healers, and DPS warriors that sometimes double as floor textures.

Health regen stuff like Major Troll’s Blood Potions are usually pretty cheap in a developed classic economy. That plus Life Tap can go a long way toward keeping you as self-sufficient as possible.

I thought the different health stones were based on spell book rank and not talent points.

This comes much later, he was specifically asking about MC/Ony, but yes, once it becomes available, pick this up as well.

you can make wizard oil as an enchanter. in fact, you can make minor wizard oil, lesser wizard oil, wizard oil and brilliant wizard oil. sadly, superior wizard oil doesnt come out til patch 2.0.1.6, which is tbc.

You will want the 3 from the talent points, 0, 1 and 2 points into imp HS. Most guilds will plan this out ahead of time with the main raiding warlocks.

Wait, so does that mean someone could potentially carry 9 different health stones?

Wizard Oil was added in 1.8 Emerald Dragons Patch.

wowhead says 1.11. interesting.

I guess you could but you wouldn’t be able to use them all during a fight due to the CD on them.
