Warlock Race

So I’m having a Delima… I cannot decide on a warlock race, I’m between Human, Undead and Orc. I know orcs were the first warlocks but what about know? what makes the most sense from a lore standpoint?

We wanna be real technical, draenei we’re the first playable race to be warlocks. Mechanically one of the most recent, narratively thats their whole thing. Most of their people became demons and/or what we’d consider warlocks.

Anyway, what makes sense is what you make of it and what story do you want to tell. Orcs have certainly gotten more attention recently as they’ve shown the Burning Blade have become the primary “warlock clan.” Small, rebuilding, but the orcs at least have a dedicated group to the class. Ritssyn, an orc, is also a primary leader in the Council of the Black Harvest, the warlock order hall. So we see orcs getting a bit more recent attention in the whole warlock tally.

But really, its what you make of it. You can have a human who’s some hermit summoning demons out in Duskwood, or a Dark Iron who’ll gleefully use felflame to torture and maim is way through the world, or a troll who uses what they claim is voodoo, but is fel, to summon imps as little pets cause he’s lonely. Its all up to you and what you find engaging.

I went with Earthen. & came up with an interesting story of how when he awoke he found a soulstone of a warlock that was taken down when dalaran crashed & upon eating said stone (earthen eat rocks) becomes infused with the fel magics the warlock possessed

Any of them do. Most come from wildly different paths. Human and elven warlocks for instance, are not Ex-Shamans.

My lock is a Mechagnome. He was a regular gnome but then got into a Full Metal Alchemist type situation. Dug too deeply into forbidden knowledge and paid the price with his flesh when the ritual went sideways.

This might be one of my favorite character backtories i’ve ever seen.

I tend to be partial to Blood Elf/ Void Elf Warlocks. Mostly due to their main story beats being quests for power to begin with, and how that could easily lead one down the path of becoming a Warlock. Overall though, there is no right answer on the “best race” to be a Warlock. More than anything else, being a Warlock is a personal journey for those of us who seek unfathomable power, and choosing a race for your Warlock should reflect that desire (at least for RP purposes)!

Call me the biggest edge lord ever but something about being a decrypted corpse risen from the dead wielding profane magic just appeals to me. I started this game as an undead mage but I knew all along I should of been an undead warlock. Also all the warlock sets look amazing on us.

The hapless human commoner in way over his head has easily been the funnest character arc I’ve taken part in.

One sided contracts really keep your interest in the character going. Like initially having to hunt ic for souls everyday to stay alive with no training was great.

No one expects a warlock acolyte to rob other warlocks at gunpoint for soulstones.
