What level can I start drain tanking? I heard its really efficient. I have my succubus and im level 21.

You can drain tank as soon as you can start putting points in Fel Concentration.
So levels 20-25.
After that, you want to make a choice. Either you’re going to go deep affliction and pick up dark pact so you can use your succubus as a mana battery, or you want to go get improved voidwalker so you can use your VW as an offtank for a mob with a set of dots.

Tin is correct. However, I would recommend going Dark Pact. I tried both specs and even with improved VW it was still hard for him to hold aggro.

I don’t get this. I’ve never had a problem with voidwalker threat. Are you attacking the mob directly while it’s being offtanked, or do you just use dots?

This. Pulling aggro usually requires two shadowbolts on top of the dots.
Even when VW does lose aggro, a couple shots with my wand finishes the mob.
Agony, Corruption, Immolate and then wand til dead was my set rotation. With the Voidwalker I had aggro before I finished applying all the dots.

How? Your last dot is immolate. You should be applying that right as the first agony tick hits.
Please explain how you pulled from your VW without dealing damage to the target.
Literally the only way I’m aware of that it can happen is if you had your voidwalker on passive the whole time.

I dunno how I pulled threat, maybe I just didn’t wait long enough? I hit 60 the first 3 weeks after launch so it’s kinda fuzzy. Rotation might be wrong. I just remember respeccing to try it and going back within the hour. I was just trying to let OP know what I experienced while leveling.

There’s no way to pull threat by applying dots unless your voidwalker wasn’t actually hitting the mob in the first place.
VW cant hold threat because he cant do a lot of damage
even succubus cant hold threat after you apply agony, corruption and siphon life
you should get succubus asap and use her for leveling. in my experience vw use is very niche, he is not that good on classic

Yes. Even with higher ranks of Torment he had issues. Also, thanks for mentioning siphon life. I knew I was forgetting one haha

exactly, torment dont pull the aggro towards the VW definitely

It just generates threat.
One torment can hold aggro against several dot ticks. Even with 4 dots this will be enough to keep the mob on the voidwalker unless you start wanding.
It’s been 112 days, and I’m now 41.
My voidwalker drops aggro all the time the moment I decide to wand the mob after dots because of the high damage. I siphon all the time and can handle often 3 to 4 mobs and mobs +3 above me.
Stoked to have my felsteed.

Now see THIS makes sense. Not the “VW loses aggro before I’m done applying dots” version.
If you’re using the VW rather than the succubus, it’s there to hold a mob with dots on it while you drain tank another mob.
You don’t wand the mob, you dot up another mob while you’re waiting for the first one to die. Then another while the blueberry is tanking the second one.

Yes even with all the torment you will pull aggro after a few ticks. I call BS to anyone that says otherwise.
Bottom line is you WILL take aggro so adjust tactic accordingly. The VW has a finite amount of available mana so you may get 2 pulls before either waiting for his mana or summoning a new one. Not a great way to level in my opinion.
I found that by stacking a lot of health regen and on top of that sac the VW for extra health regen you can chain pull pretty good.

No. I call BS on this.
I’ve been poorly geared. I’ve been well geared.
Even now with almost 400 spell power, a few dot ticks isn’t enough to pull off of a voidwalker with torment on autocast. I don’t even have the VW talents.
Look, I think we ALL understand that threat is a finite resource, but there’s no need to exaggerate. The point of using a VW is to offtank a mob with dots on it while you drain life a second mob. At all levels, it works for that purpose.
It’s when you start attacking it directly that threat becomes an issue.

You get Siphon life, Curse Of agony, and corruption on a mob and you have about 5 seconds before its on you. Sorry pal, This is the way it is.
But anyways, I am not here to get into a pissing match. That is what I experience. Good day.
