Warlock Phase 4 PTR

Lets start with something most warlocks have been griping about since the start of P3. Backdraft and conflag. Why on earth does conflag still consume an immolate when running backdraft. Immolate → Conflag → Immolate is the lamest spell casting loop, and was lame in original classic. This change wouldn’t even make us that much stronger as a dps spec, just make the rotation more enjoyable.

The new runes for warlock are extremely underwhelming. Decimation will be a set and forget rune in that slot for all dps warlocks, and is just a passive execute damage bonus. the shadowburn rune had potential for affliction to snapshot a crit bonus on a DoT, but that was removed (or was never intended just a mistake on the original blue post). And then the tank rune, which is also boring, but will be strong in pvp.

The new %hit ring runes are cool, but if they’re tied t exalted Supply rep most people will never get them or will just quit. As a warlock enjoyer having that %hit be on a rune will have massive benefits for the class so I hope they aren’t a massive pain to get.

I’m not even going to mention affliction, as it seems no one really knows how to get that to be playable. The last “change” warlock has seen on live servers was a bug fix to invocation that doesn’t even fully work properly with Agony and things like the DoT buff trinket or amplify curse.

Hopefully Lake of Fire gets a solid redesign this time, because the last one just killed the rune. Who wants to sit and full channel a RoF? It was extremely clunky with the original design but somehow it just got made worse. If you’re going to redesign it, do something like a flame brand that’s tied to immolate. While immolate is active on the target your fire spells do more damage. Not 100% certain but I think that’s literally a retail destruction talent.

I’m not stoked for a single rune choice they’re presenting us with.

TBH I prefer backdraft to Lake of Fire. Lake was lame when the boss needed to be moved, which is most fights nowadays. At least backdraft stays on me and goes wherever I go. I kind of like the level of intensity it requires to keep the rotation going. You could increase the backdraft duration by 2 sec but idk.

Affliction needs help, and the new rune for shadowburn needs its soulshard cost taken off.

Biggest changes I think we need are a defensive CD and a stun/snare for PvP.

You’re scaring me about the ring runes being tied to Supply rep. The only boxes I ever find cost like 50-60g to fill :grimacing:

Don’t worry you get a defensive option as a meta warlock now! you get to banish yourself and go afk for 15 seconds with a R1 banish, or get this, 30 whole seconds with a R2 banish!

I just want backdraft to have a secondary line that reads “Conflagration no longer consumes the immolate on the target”. That’s it. Whatever they change with LoF will undoubtedly be better than the current iteration.

Also the shadowburn rune is useless for affliction. It has zero interaction with DoT spells. It’s just a clunky mess that will eat all of your soul shards and require you to have nothing but shards in your inventory to use the rune properly.

Conflag consuming immolate honestly feels worse than Lake of Fire EVER did.

Lake of fire would be useless on bosses #2,3,4,5, annoying on 6 in ST. I can use backdraft on any fight and not have to worry about it falling off. Immo takes 1 sec to recast with the haste buff. Biggest downside is the mana cost, but you can just pre-tap before you conflag.

I would not complain if you didn’t have to recast immolate but I don’t think its as bad as the boss constantly moving out of lake of fire on these movement fights.

locks are getting bent over in p4,
