I cant decide! which is more fun?
I like both. Personally I enjoy destruction Warlock and frost Mage. They feel fun, but may not be the best for the current expansion.

I’m a huge fan of frost mage right now. The procs can be a bit of a pain however I usually get invited to keys. My warlock friend says it’s a struggle to get invited. Now granted they invite me assuming I’m fire so I make sure not to click ice barrier until after the key has started.

Mage 100%. Warlock is a meh pick right now. Go fire mage, you get into anything easily. No one wants warlock because its not meta and it sucks in DPS in the long run in M+.
Warlock: Pets to do your bidding.
Mage: Destroy things with fire, ice, or arcane.
Warlock: Get a felsteed type mount for Legion class quest.
Mage: Get a flying disc.
Go Warlock.

What I love about mages is their utility that will always be relevant, regardless of the meta-ness of its specs. Like it’s never not going to be advantageous to be able to teleport to any city without a cooldown and without having to first hearth to a hub, and you don’t have to think about things like buying food.
Roll a dark iron mage (for mole machine) engineer (for portal generators) and set up the mage tower in garrison and portal network in class hall to get to practically any corner of the WoW universe in 10s.
As for mounts, I love the heck out of my mage disc. It’s quiet, unobtrusive, fits through every doorway, looks great both on ground and in the air, and automatically adjusts appearances to match my spec. Couldn’t ask for better.

Frost mage is my favourite ranged dps spec. They’re capable of doing a ton of damage and have very good group utility. You can kite for days and save wipes where a lock would just die too. lol
Fire and arcane are also both great picks. All three mage specs bring a lot to the table in the right hands. 
Mage will always be good
Warlock will shine in the last patch of the expansion
Mage if you want meta and if you want to be wanted, warlock if you want a unique class design that feels really bad but is still more fun than mage

Mage have a tower, Warlock do not.
Mage have abilities, Warlock used to have some.
Mage can Ice Block but i can still kill them with Shattering Throw.
Warlock dots cannot be spell reflected and they summon Succubus…

Well, since Blizz has said mages are fine go warlock to save yourself the heartbreak when they change their minds and do something to nerf the class.
But if you truly want to go mage then go mage.
Ummm they are in the top 2 for raiding. Aff spec is #2 in all difficulty levels. So I wouldn’t say they are meh right now. Locks ALWAYS have at least 1 spec in the top 3 every tier.
