Hey there, rolling undead for Classic wow. I am mostly interested in open world PvP so I was wondering of either Warlock or Mage which would be the better options (For not only PvP, but also herb gathering and mob grinding).
Thanks!

Warlock, top duelist, pet for aggroing etc and more viability, mages have a better escape and are harder to kill, but warlock’s kill better then mages. Both are good in different respect’s it depends on how skilled you are with either or. But i’d lead towards warlock myself.
Warlock all day.
They’re both really good for 1v1. The main difference is Warlock relies on fear and Mage relies on frost slows. Any class that can disrupt those things will give you trouble and anyone who can’t will not.
Since Warlock relies on fear a class with a good interrupt can be dangerous. A rogue who opens on you is pretty scary. A mage who uses counterspell wisely could also be pretty tough.
Since Mage relies on slowing and immobilizing debuffs they struggle with classes who dispel. The primary example would be Priest. A good SPriest is a terror. Paladins can also be very difficult to deal with but that is more of a group PvP thing as they don’t deal much damage on their own.
Also both classes can somewhat struggle with a smart hunter who stays at max range, but then again who doesn’t?
Mage is better in skilled hands, warlock easier overall until you meet skilled opponents.
You will love both. Do not consider the warlock pet. No skilled player is going to fight your pet while you wail on him.
Sounds like you want mage.
Ice block allows you to make great plays.
Warlocks can be pretty op if geared but every raid = 1 warlock
You want 3 of them, not 1 of them… or at least a bare minimum of 2 if you are foregoing Shadows as a debuff (Recklessness and Elements)… 3 of them allows you to healthstone stack 3 different stones (so you don’t have to open trade mid encounter)… as well as doesn’t completely tap a dude out for summons (unless you have an army of alt locks to do summons)
@ the thread topic…
Warlocks are better at dueling and have way more build variety…
That being said, much of Lock’s dueling prowess comes with being able to specifically set yourself up to counter people with a proper pet out.
Mages on the other hand, will suck significantly less at recovering from a death. Locks are one of the easiest classes in the game to camp once you’ve killed them once, and that can make for some powerfully lame moments in WPvP. It takes a warlock a minute or longer to get up to full combat viability after rezzing at their corpse… Buff, Eat, Pet for 10 seconds, tap a few times, healthstone, soulstone, spellstone, eat again…
Lol, you need at least 3 for the debuffs alone. Ive seen twice that many in MC banishing adds, and 5 or so in AQ and Naxx raids 4-5k shadowbolting stuff to absolute dust once they all have crit and start maintaining imp SB.
Locks are plentiful in classic raids. Saying guilds only take 1 per raid is laughably wrong.
I was a warlock back in Classic the whole time actually. I gotta say it was a powerful powerful class in all types of pvp. In the duels you can dominate just about any class. In the open world you are menacing to anyone you encounter. I felt needed in raids, and it was easy for me gear up from MC and BWL even though I didn’t focus on raiding at all. I gotta vote for the Warlock.
Okay cool. So with all this being said, how does Shadow Priest work for 1v1 PvP open world?
Against a warlock? A skilled player most definitely attacks the pet under certain circumstances.
