Which is more fun and has engaging rotation?
-
Which has been better in PVP historically?
-
Better at soloing?
-
Better mogs?
Personally I prefer warlock
Hunters I’ve always found boring. Their visuals are seriously lacking. How many different ways can you make an arrow look interesting? I think spellcasting gives Blizzard a lot more visual freedom in designing the visuals of a class
For PvP, I’d say warlocks have had more time as op, or good, than hunters. There’s been some times where warlocks were absolute gods. SL/SL warlock, legions affliction, and now BFA Destro. They’re all OP
For soloing, I’d say they’re about equal. My lock can solo the boss level elites in the N’Zoth invasions pretty easily. I imagine hunters can do the same.
For mogs, it’s definitely warlock. They always get good mogs sets, and can usually get lookalike sets for priest, and mage looks.
Hunters are more limited as mail armor is shaman and hunter only
If you care about doing content in the game, hunters have aoe and have an interrupt, affliction its just a meme right now.

Both are relatively simple, but hunters have a few more tricks at their disposal, like traps, camouflage, disengage, feign death, misdirect, etc.
-
I’d say both have been fairly equal overall, over the years. Both have really strong and weak points in pvp, and both play really differently, so it’s kind of personal preference. I’ve always enjoyed Affliction for pvp in the past.

Pretty equal, all things considered. I might say Hunters edge out past warlocks very slightly, because their pet heal is instant cast and feels like it heals a bit more, plus they can kite mobs if things get hectic, or worst case scenario… feign death, and camo your way to safety. That’s just my preference, though… overall, they’re both solid.

Warlocks. Not even a second thought.
Thanks for this great aproach. What would you choose between these 2?
Honestly? Super, super tough to choose. I’ve played a warlock for over a decade, and it’s my favourite class, and their mogs are always amazing. I’m a big mog person, so that is an important thing for me… hunter mogs are… ok. A bit bland and dull, but not terrible.
Warlock spell animations are FLASHY. Especially if you get green fire. And the sound effects for the spells are great too, if you play with sound. It’s so satisfying visually to play a warlock!
I would probably choose hunters at this point, though. Mainly because they do have a bit more utility at their disposal, whether it’s for group content or solo play. They have a baseline interrupt, crowd control and slowing traps. Their pet can have a single target stun. They can spec into camouflage to stealth around, and it also a really solid heal. You can tame almost any beast under the sun, and some offer additional utility, like beast master spirit beasts can heal and have an ability that is both a soothe and a purge. Some pets have bloodlust-type ability. (Nether rays, and the Colossal Sky Rays in Nazjatar have BOTH!)
And lately I’ve enjoyed playing my hunter more in pvp, simply because as BM, I can cast everything on the move, I can kite, I can trap, I can feign death. Might just be me that’s changed over the years, and a hunter fits my playstyle more now.
Don’t forget in 9.0 there’s going to be big changes to all the classes, and abilities are being added/brought back, so it’s bound to be really different at that point.
Forget all of that. The real issue is whether you want to be the living embodiment of power, summoning demons, manipulating chaos, the anathema to all life, into meteoric projectiles to smash your enemies, sucking their life to support yours while burning or ripping out their souls for your enjoyment and use. Or whether you like shooting pointy sticks at people while playing with kittens and puppies.
Your warlock description looked more convincing haha
Better mogs???
Bahahaha
Have you seen hunter armor sets?
Warlock sets are coolest in the game, and always on point.
Warlock ever time for me.
Warlock mogs are all dresses though…sure they look edgy but…yeah.
Lets see if this change your mind

Pve is for the birds. Warlocks are cool, but you can’t win a mog contest in a dress.
you are so right about hunters being visually boring.
If by right, you mean wrong, yeah I agree.
Warlocks have better mogs, but Hunter is currently better at every other aspect of the game right now except perhaps Mythic raiding.
For everything except raiding, the answer would be Hunter. I know people will say warlock mogs are good, but hunters have such a huge variety of pets they can run with. Lock pets are just meh.
