Warlock needs help

Im leveling my lock atm , while i feel im doing meh damage, my vw also cant hold any aggroo, im just dotting without immolate and just wanding, boom i pull aggro. Im levelling as affliction. Is it going to change, or am i gonna do sub par damage end game while dealing with retarded pet ai and too much micromanagement (ss, hs, soul shard farming, pet management etc) . Im level 29 currently, and thinking about maybe can give mage a try. They are super populat i see that discourages me, but i think locks are not very rare too. In open world pvp , dungeon pve(levelling etc) , what do you guys suggest , mage or lock, in terms of fun and damage wise. I am really torn apart.

I would also like to see what people suggest for low level warlocks. I was playing tonight grouped with one and he was struggling with everything. Spells resisting (yes, he was talenting for the reduced resist %), getting annihilated because he was SO squishy (maybe he needs more greens?), not much damage…

Warlock pet can’t hold aggro. If you are affliction then you should be able to drain tank. If you don’t like all the bull, (like soul shards and whatnot) and want to just range dps, mage might actually be worth the switch for you.

In terms of damage, do you want to spam frostbolt or shadowbolt?

I don’t really know what you’re talking about.

I top damage in every dungeon I’ve run, multi-dotting is simple and fluid, and I don’t even really bother with having a voidwalker tank and just go succubus for DPS.

So you do questing with succubus? Could u explain more how it works? Cuz my dots ticking so little while im watching mages dishing out high damage.

My suggestion is DoT up a target and let the succubus attack. The initial succubus damage is enough to peel aggro off you as you line up a Shadow Bolt. You peel aggro back off and the enemy is likely already half dead. Wand it from there. You should get out of combat with most enemies with 75%+ health and mana.

Also set up macros for /petattack and /petfollow and keybind them somewhere you can easily reach. These make managing your pets a lot easier.

Thanx for answer, i know endgame its only shadow or frost bolt spam, i meant dps in generall while leveling dungeons and farming bis gear after. Also even in world pvp. Multi dotting is fun, but doing sub par damage is not. And yeah , too many micro management kindda annoying

Mouse wheel up / down is extremely intuitive and works wonders. Try it.

Okay, will try that, thanx alot mate

Are you taking the time to buy all the grimoires to train up your pet’s skills? Higher rank torment might help in holding aggro on your VW

Use fear to juggle multiple mobs at once, with talents you can drain life through some hits, you wand to save mana.

You should be able to kill multiple mobs at a time and get through alot of pulls before you have to stop for health and mana.

Depending on your level different dots have different damage per mana, you want to use the ones that are doing damage for you, there are some luls between dot ranks while leveling.

Heres a drain tanking guide for warlock.

You can fear dot one mob while drain tanking another. Questing should be pretty fast. You can also send pet in for quests where you need to get past a boss to collect an item etc.

Be careful with fear, many enemies automatically pull nearby enemies of their “faction” when close, usually humanoids.

Also make sure to pull your pet off the target so they don’t aggro more enemies as they jog alongside the terrified, fleeing cave spider.

Curse of rec on a feared mob will cause it to stop running, you lose you agony but dont aggro extra mobs.

Thanks alot will have a look

I’m not sure if this is the best method, but its the method that works for me. I usually send in my voidwalker pet first, dot the target and shadowbolt, i pull aggro then i fear then wand, the dots kill the target before the fear ends.

Did you train your VW to have the latest version of their taunt spells?
The rotation is important on how to keep aggro at VW. Start with lower damage dots and use debuffs instead of damage dots if your damage output is too high.

How to level as a warlock:
Use your Imp, be affliction, dots, wands, kiting, VW is mostly useless unless it is a specific quest mob, minimize your down time as much as possible. do not blow all your mana every mob, get your dots up, then only wand, that lets your mana regen faster once you hit the 5 second rule.

A good way to kite is to pull with the imp, run to its left or right forming a triangle with you, your imp, and the mob then have it start running to the imp as you put your dots on it, then run away when it is on you as you stutter wand (run, stop, wand, run, repeat)

Do this all the way to 60.

Did you try imp on Test Realm or release? They are much weaker than what you might think (especially when coming from p-servers).

You don’t open up fully on a mob until they’re around 50-60% if you want voidwalker to keep aggro. As warlock I can easily pull aggro off a tank with dots and shadowbolt. Use voidwalker as practice for threat management.
