Hey. Iâm planning on leveling up a warlock in Classic. Is Destruction viable? If not, what spec should I choose? Thanks. Also: playing on a PvP server.
Google warlock leveling guide and find out.
Iâd rather see a conversation spark. Thanks.
Destro is terribly mana inefficient. Unless youâre in instances, donât bother.
The two strats that seem to work the best involve either
- Use VW to offtank a mob with dots while you draintank a second.
or
- Use Succubus as a mana battery via Dark Pact. Turn off her abilities, and just have her autoattack the mob youâre drain tanking.
Either way, pick up Fel Concentration and improved drain life.
Affliction with a drain tank build.
Maybe add that to the OP so it doesnât seem like you just want the answers handed to you without the work.
That is how I perceived it. Thatâs my bad.
As far as I know, you initially start with the anti resist talent and get corruption to 3 points and then go into demo for improved pets and then the rest in affliction.
Iâve only leveled a warlock to 38 on âotherâ servers so take it with a grain of salt.
Bleh. Thatâs a shame. I love meaty Shadowbolts. I guess Iâll be waiting until endgame for that kind of stuff.
This sounds like a lot of fun! I suppose that the Succubus has the largest mana pool?
Will do. Should I grab Fel Intellect while Iâm at it?
Hmm. This seems like it could be worked into Tinâs Succubus + Dark Pact mana battery playstyle. It looks like Iâm going Affliction. Thanks, guys.
Destro is actually very good for PvP especially paired with some Demonology points. I reccomend always taking as many points in Improved Corruption as you can, to make it insta cast. After that, your gear is more important. Youâll be a bit glass cannon like but thats where gear/enchants help. Itâs an entirely fun spec. Personally Iâm not a fan of overusing or being reliant on drain life, as itâs not always terribly efficient and you could be going with better spells. But thatâs parroted alot on the net these days it seems. Some people prefer playing that way, tho so play around with it. I honestly never thought it was that mana inefficient for PvP especially if youâre geared right, but in PvE thatâs a different storyâŚ
Edit: Also, sacrificing your Voidwalker as a shield is a nice bonus in general.
Warlock is such a strong leveling class you can do whatever, but destruction is definitely the least efficient. Very solid choice for pvp while leveling though. Battlegrounds are coming out in a week, I had a ton of fun leveling a rogue back in vanilla as a pvp alt and stopping every 10 levels to hit the bgs.
You can play whatever spec you like as they mostly revolve around a voidwalker.
My suggestion would be to try them out and go with the one you enjoy the most.
Destro doesnât bring anything to the table that will help you level. You will be throwing shadowbolts that are slightly faster and crit more thats all.
and a third, and a fourth.
You can comfortably level via destro. Just need a VW and wand. Save the mana for the gankers.
So, in other words, donât cast anything? Youâre going to level very slowly like that.
Affliction is awesome in PvP⌠SM/Ruin is a very good spec. So is drain tanking. Many prefer DS/Ruin but for PvP my own preference is and has been Affliction.
Well I never said anything about efficiency. Nothing like getting ganked with no mana to defend yourself.
Right, but if youâre running a drain tank build you can kill several things faster and still have full mana and health to PVP if you need to.
Nothing is going to stop a couple of gankers when you have some mobs on you but at least you can level quickly with a good Affliction build. And itâs not half-bad for PVP either.
Agree with Graff and add: the Suc is awesome if you want to mow mobs down. But, that having been said, imp sac is great and can literally save your life. Either are good for drain tanking but my pref is the suc over the blueb.
I agree. Mustâve mistaken OPs destruction for deep destruction.
In any case if youâre leveling on a pvp server youâre probably getting ganked mostly by rogues or feral.
Just make sure you have enough HP to survive the initial hit and mana to fight⌠Nothing is slower than a corpse run.
Iâd run with the succubus for the most part, she does a good amount of damage and the seduce is great in both PVE and PVP. The voidwalker will barely hold aggro even if you are deep Demo, itâs really only useful if you are PVPing at max level with a soul link build. Then the combination sacrifice + fel dom a new VW + soul link = youâre a raid boss for a bit.
