Warlock in classic, professions and general advice

Alright… I am SO torn in picking my classic main right now… but think I am going to land on warlock… I know I will be casting a lot of misses from the beginning… but I want to have those summons available… love the lore… a few questions… I plan on taking herbing and alchemy but have read engineering is the bees knees… what should my professions look like while leveling with pve being a priority?

Also… how bad are those initial raiding moments and the misses with warlocks? A bunch of friends are getting back together for this so I am not min-maxing here but I don’t want to be a drag either.

Engineering on a pvp server
Tailoring no matter what.

I would suggest Tailoring and Enchanting. Tailoring is very valuable for any clothie and the stuff you can make from it can fuel your enchanting with mats. Don’t worry about engineering unless you want to drop a lot of coin and are serious about min/maxing your character.

early raiding with warlocks is a little iffy because of the early lack of %hit gear. You’ll most likely not out DPS a mage, but you’re still useful for your curses. Things start getting real good once ZG hits and you can use some Bloodvine stuff.

In the last stress test I took a Warlock up to around 13-14.
I took tailoring and enchanting to get a wand, because until I had that wand I was having issues (took up to about level 10 making greens and DE’ing them).
The imp is made out of paper it seems, it really has no durability and if you’re controlling your aggro well you’ll burn just as much mana recasting the summon as you will spamming shadowbolt after setting up some dots.
It was much better after getting the Void Walker, but it was easy to pull aggro off of him, too, so timing on the spells was important. Immolate before having him attack kept his taunt working well, If I goofed and cast it after or had a miss then he couldn’t get the aggro back.
Using the wand saved the mana vs shadow bolts and seemed to just burn things down faster (set the dots correctly and then wand) and everything went much more smooth; I had a pretty good mana reserve after each pull.

On a more established realm (i mean, it was a test realm so very much a solo effort for crafting gear) and/or with an alt you can give money, buying a wand is probably the way to go for picking the other professions.

It is much better than what some people are saying. Classic is different than private servers and 1.1 Vanilla, which some are failing to take into account. With warlocks having both 1.12 talents and 1.12 itemization, they’ll be fairly strong in phase 1.

My advice to you is to find a leveling guide not based on private servers. For example, the Voidwalker is much worse in Classic than it was on private servers, so you shouldn’t use it for leveling. A succubus or an imp are better options.

Depends on if you are in a guild that will run stuff to gear you, or if you need to make robes and goggles etc. Or if you don’t mind running some 5 mans repeatedly

on leveling pick skinning and sell mats to vendors. Easy gold for start.

I had some similar questions, I’m rolling lock for classic and I was wondering about choosing professions. My plan was to take skinning and engineering from the start because I want to pvp and will definitely need engineering down the line. Was going to pick up skinning while leveling and then drop it and pick something else down the line. Do you guys suggest tailoring to replace skinning?

If Engineering then mining is a must. I’m going enchant/tailoring first to get my first wand then engi/mining.

if pvp engineering is vital almost

if your going to play on a pvp realm i’d level as eng/mining then drop mining at 60 for tailoring then get your robe of the void after getting that drop tailoring for enchanting or alchemy.

if your going to play on a pve realm and no one else in your group is going to have skinning, skinning/tailoring can be fairly helpful till you get 60 then drop skinning for enchanting or eng.

eng is just powerful regardless of pvp/pve with all the tools it gives you plus the extra teleport, which makes getting around rather easy depending on your faction you join. bombs and sapper charges are stupid helpful if expensive.

the real question you should be asking yourself is, “will I level cooking, fishing, and first aid?”

hopefully the answer to those questions is yes. XD

Thanks gang! I am SO stoked for this… I will be trying not to rush the leveling process and get first aid, fishing, and cooking leveled with me as I go.

I have decided to level mining and engineering and just use the white wands from vendors until BFD and that level 18 wand… I am going gnome anyways so engineering should be a must anyways… Maybe AH the extra mats from mining…eventually I will need those tailoring robes… but maybe I can buy them on the AH for not too much or are they BOP?

SO excited for this… I really hope this goes well and they realize there is a large community that desires class niche over balance. Cheers!

robe of the void is bop

Alchemy is great. You don’t need anything from engineering. Bloodvine lens would be nice but it won’t even be in until ZG.

You won’t get hit gear until ZG, just accept that. You’re still a healthstone, portal and soulstone bot, all while being the sexiest mofo in the group. What more can you ask?

Alchemy is great while leveling. Tons of useful items can be made to boost your own power and that of your group. Try it out, don’t worry about getting it right the first go. There’s plenty of time, just enjoy the ride!

Also always soulstone yourself and nobody else, ever. You evil, evil warlock, you!

for leveling, you’re better off just doing skinning, tailoring.
wands will be on the AH for cheap in the first few hours of launch.
