Only because mindgames + UA crit is super toxic gameplay imo. I really wish they wouls nerf ua dispel crit and corruption slow so they can balance warlocks properly.
My experience has been miserable and it doesnt looks like they are going to do enough to adress a lot of design issues warlocks have in arena. I’ve been following some streamers but they seem to get frustrated most of the time.
I suggest you playing a class that is already doing good, mage, warrior, boomkin, ret, monk, sp.
Once the holy pally shadow aura change comes in and holy pally nerfs no healer will be able to last more then a few minutes vs a aff warlock. Aff is SOOO close to being god tier.
Currently splay is getting pretty hard countered by holy pallys but once they can go oom and they lose their 15% shadow resist aura you might start seeing locks be insane.
If left unattended locks are scary. I know you’re talking arena, but I’ve been in yolos where an aff was left alone and the entire team just goes down at the same time.
I did 2’s with one last week, and we did pretty well. I can’t look up my record on Arenamate, and I’m guessing the Armory is down too? Anyways, I played disc, and tried to just keep him up while he did damage, along with assisting in damage where I could. But more importantly putting mind games on someone and keeping him dispelled. I know Smolflux can speak to Holy priest and Lock working also, but he’s a lot more skilled than I am. From my small experience playing with a lock it takes a sec to get the cc chain going, and for the dots to do damage. But if you can make it until the dots become pressuring, than you are likely to win. I could imagine a RDruid, Hpal, Disc, & Holy priest would all work with a lock in 2’s.
If I was good at Disc where I had nothing else to learn, i’d try Holy with him as I think the extra Stun would go very well with a lock.
We saw a lock play in AWC a couple times with a Hpal and Spriest, but I honestly can’t remember how they did.
I think it’s both. Holy seems to be more able to survive than people thought, and it comes with an additional CC. However it also has a lot of hard casts, and one school of magic. I know me personally have my gear ready for Disc (as far as I can get it), and with the Vault seemingly loving to give me Mastery gear, I might have a Holy set also.
I run holy in BGs if my 2’s partner isn’t on and my RBGs teams are on (and I’m not in the mood to pug 3’s). This way I can keep trying it out.
Look at the ladder. You’ll see one lock in the top 100. Burnx plays Destro for arena. He’s the only that makes AWC. He hasn’t won a match in AWC. Yet you’ll keep getting people who are terrible saying they’re good because they’ve never played the class.
Shadowplay is okay if the other team is much worse skillwise and only a counterpick comp. Not a ladder comp.
This is a get good situation. Dark Glare is really your only kill window. If UA didn’t do decent damage we’d never kill anything. Affliction is utter trash and can’t kill outside their 3 minute CD. I’m 226 and have good uptime on 3 targets. Nothing dies… I get my face trained the whole arena. I haven’t played a game above 2k to where I haven’t been trained into the dirt. No one has any other strat besides train train train. Even terrible BFA Affliction felt better than now. Destro is just as bad. You need to really play terrible to lose to Lock. Lucky for me, most cleaves 2.2k and under, don’t understand basic arena.
How is saying mindgames + UA silence/crit toxic gameplay a get good situation? You’re jumping down peoples throats over nothing man. I never said locks were S tier either. I agree locks need buffs, but more importantly we need a overhaul on our pvp design.
