They get bigger as you level.
But they’re also designed to not dominate all your screen space.

Or they’re too cheap to put out enough magic to summon the adults.

They grow with level of your character. They have a max height thought as to not blind you of what an enemy is doing.
I played a game where gms had a special event and 1 drop was a GIANT boss dog as a tame pet. I didn’t get it but I saw someone else with it, it filled up the screen and made things very hard to see for everyone…needless to say it was more of an /afk “look at me” pet then actual useful pet unless you wanted to get booted.

But if the demon is only the size of a gnome, we might as well just get a gnome pet instead of a demon.
And gnome pets are not as cool as demons.

I use cookies to make my pets bigger. Or biscuits, if ya fancy.
I use them on my Voidwalker but there’s another kind of biscuit for battle pets, so sometimes I use them on my Sister of Temptation succubus pet so I can be flanked by two lovely ladies on my warlock. 
I love my warlock, he’s such an impish pimp.
Yeah but I kinda like that my imp is a tiny machinge gun of fel-fire death. Somewhere back in anicent times the Destruction Warlock could take a talent that would make his fireball twice as fast. It wasn’t in the game long, but my god was it the effing best.

I didn’t even know this was a thing until today and can’t find the reasoning behind it.
I understand making them smaller, the voidwalker was a huge pain in the behind to work around but having it and the demon girl/boy (a) ‘grow with your character’ and (b) be still be so small at max height is just ridiculous.
Thank goodness they didn’t touch my doggo!

Felguard hasn’t seen a slice of cake in its life. It’s a middle-aged rural white guy, the gray/red coloration is clearly just body paint because that thang is Hank Hill style anti-booty.
