Warlock and Hunter Pets still losing half health when dismounting (flying)

This has been a bug on WoW classic since TBC flying, and is still broken.

I confirmed that it’s still broken as of today. Whenever dismounting from a flying mount, my pet drops to 42-50% hp. Half the time it immediately ticks back to 100%, the other half of the time it stays where it is.
If I mount and dismount again, it either stays at 42% or drops to 8%. Then 1%.

I can find no evidence that Blizzard has bothered to acknowledge this as an issue at any point, and yet it makes two classes nearly unplayable in open world content.

While questing I have to pause and health funnel every time I dismount, before I can attack or pull anything.

Blizzard,
Please either fix this, or at the very least respond and acknowledge that you’re aware that it’s an issue.
You could even go further and either tell us you’re in the process of fixing it, or it’s just not worth your time.

It’s not a bug, it was a ‘fix’ they did to combat people exploiting pets completely resetting when spawning in in these situations. People could use tonks, eye of kilrogg and mounts to reset their pet’s HP, mana, and cool downs.

The only real usage case of consequence here was in PvP, people could do stuff like double stun/double interrupt with their pets, but the actual abuse of this was very low incidence and I don’t think it even worked in arenas unless you hard cast a 5 second Eye of Kilrogg.

Rather than simply disallowing the things that caused this in arenas, they elected to completely screw over pets. Pets can actually end up dying in fights like Malygos directly due to this poor implementation, as the vortex will despawn/respawn your pet in this same way, and if it’s even a little damaged it may spawn back in with low enough health to die to an incidental AoE.

It’s actually ridiculous that this “fix” has been in-game for this long. I just assume with all the pet bugs in game that their pet code is atrocious and they’re just unable to make an adequate adjustment that pleases everyone and doesn’t go back to the exploit that they had before. It also doesn’t help that I main a hunter AND a demo lock.

Pet pathing is equally horrible, it’s worse than the original game was because at least then I knew what to expect. With this hybrid legion/reworked pet pathing AI there’s some predictive pathing BS where the pets will sometimes just keep running another 10 or 15 yards after you stop and pull stuff.

This is truly awful. I bought heirlooms for lock and hunter, only to discover, to my horror having to deal with this issue. I’ll play something else, it really is that bad. Fix this.

Confirmed to still be broken on 10/27/2022.
Still no response from blizzard as of 10/27/2022.

Wrong. This is a bug.

Pet 100% HP. Mount. Dismount. Pet 1-50% HP. This is a bug.
No pet. Fel domination. Summon brand new pet. Pet at 1-50% HP. This is a bug.
Pet 100% HP. Enter vehicle. Leave vehicle. Pet at 1-50% HP. This is a bug.
Pet out. Mount up. Gain soulshard. Dismount. Pet still there. This is a bug.
Mount up. Fly. Pet does not dismount and is running on the ground. This is a bug.

Stop calling this a “fix” when this is obviously intended and faulty behavior. This is a bug. Repeat after me. This is a bug.

They added it intentionally and posted about it.

“Fix” the 5% who abuse the bug, while screwing the 95% who doesn’t and has to deal with this annoying sh1t. No mention to it since TBC. I love blizzard

I can’t find the post about it because the “Not A Bug List” for TBC is gone, but essentially Crix posted a video about being able to use Eye of Kilrogg (or mount) to get a fresh pet, for PvP or PvE (you could just fly up and down and get your whole mana bar from Dark Pact quickly) and a couple days later they hotfixed it to this behavior.

I’m not saying it’s a good solution, it’s just what they did. It actually has some really negative raid consequences now that we’re using vehicle stuff, as the same thing happens when exiting vehicles. You can actually have your pet die on Malygos because of this.

Bump. Let’s get this fixed!

Bump. I say all warlock and hunters should be marking a new post about this every day until we get this fixed or AT LEAST get an official post about it. Anything.

Acknowledge this please.

My fire elemental keeps getting instantly deleted on Thaddius because he takes a chain lightning before his health can fully refill. Not cool. Its enough that his CD doesnt reset after boss death.

Blizzard,
At this point we’d, as a community, be happy if you would post about literally anything.

It feels like we’ve been put on maintenance mode; you released WoTLK, and within a month moved on to other projects without leaving anyone behind to conduct customer service, bug fixes, or even forum moderation.

Also, pets are still broken as of 11/2/2022.
Still zero acknowledgement from Blizzard as of 11/2/2022.

No they didn’t. Blizzard didn’t put an RNG on your pet’s health so that after dismounting it has anywhere from 1% to 100%. The very idea is absurd.

As of 11/4 I am having trouble replicating this issue. Pets now seem to retain their health and mana when dismissed via mount and resummoned upon dismount. I flew around Crystalsong for a little bit on my lock trying to break the health pool and it seemed to retain its percentages when it came back after mounting.

Pet at 60% health when mounted comes back after mounted with 60% health
Pet dismissed and resummoned with Fel Domination comes back with 90% health
Pet at 100% when mounted comes back with 90% health.

The 100% to 90% behavior is still odd, but I’ll take it over totally losing its health pool.

I do remember the values being way more drastic to where pets would come back after mounted with 30% health even when they were full or near full.

Still no word from Blizz, but I’m curious if others are seeing this behavior as well.
