After the events of Legion and the introduction of Demonhunters into the factions that warlocks would be more accepted by the common populous of the factions, we even see warlocks openly roaming around both old and new Dalaran even though they were at war with the Legion.
If Deathknights are allowed to freely roam and allowed to raise undead and Demon hunters are allowed to openly walk around showing their demon bits isn’t it time that warlocks get the similar freedom that these evilish classes also get?
Instead, they have been shamefully hidden away and told to hide or get killed.
I mean, I highly doubt that the common folk had that much exposure to DH or DK.
We can see an example of this when the Death Knights were brought into the fold with Thassarian’s sister. Also how the citizenry reacted when you arrive in the city.
Heck, even Void Elves are not allowed in the Cathedral of Stormwind. Acceptance hasn’t really changed that much, it has, just not THAT much.
After all during Legion the Warlocks had to work underground.
Many still retain fond memories of the people that they cared about in their former lives.
The first chink in Arthas’ control over the Wrath generation of Death Knights is when one of those people you care about urges you to kill her as she believes that there’s something inside you still worth saving.
When you arrive in SW, people don’t call you out specifically, they say things like ‘‘MY FAMILY WAS WIPED OUT BY THE SCOURGE’’.
Not to mention they don’t know there’s a new LK, so they wouldn’t have ways of knowing they’re different from the other DKs anyways. Bolvar’s a secret.
One of these things is not like the other. I don’t think Death Knights can just raise zambinos anywhere they want like Orgrimmar, Stormwind, or Uther’s grave.
No but the citizens of orgrimmar seem fine with Undead around, what’s one more ghoul walking around going to do? The horde seem open about darker magics as a whole since the removal of Garrosh and the introduction (and removal) of Sylvanas. Even Garrosh commented about Thrall letting warlock practice their magics showing that there is a pretty good level of acceptance.
Bloodelves fed off fel magic and allowed demons to be openly summoned in their city, Forsaken are cool with anything even allowing blinded mind conroled slaves wander around. Nightborne even though it’s a touchy subject has most of their nobility using Warlock magic. It’s mostly Horde but there is a fair amount of cases with the Alliance too.
Arguments could be made either way. We have instances in the story of Horde soldiers fearing that they would be summarily executed if their warchief discovered they used fel magic to turn the tides of battle. And we have accounts of a fel guard fighting beside Varian on the Alliance’s ships. It’s really inconsistent.
But that’s a good thing for you because you get to ask yourself what’s better for the Warlock story? Do you want to be perfectly acceptable to society, just a specialist mage who does their work with fel fire, soul consuming and demons? Or would you rather be the reviled practitioner of the dark arts, hiding his studies away in dark basements and behind layers of secrecy? What is more appealing to you?
I don’t remember Warlocks patrolling the streets of Dalaran like other class NPCs. I remember them having a portal in the sewers though.
Agreed. It’s time for the Horde to bring back the Shadow Council. We already have all our WC2 heroes fighting for the Alliance. Except Khadgar, but Jaina can take his place.
Mostly because it’s stupid. Just because even dumber things exist doesn’t mean it isn’t dumb. Also Goldens reason for it was mostly just because she mains a human warlock.
