Warglaives of Azzinoth Transmog... can it be done "backwards"?

Hi guys, quoting the following article: https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/257103

“To unlock the appearance for your Demon Hunter, you will need to earn the achievement [I’ll Hold These For You Until You Get Out
If you have the Warglaives of Azzinoth achievement on your account, you’ll receive the Demon Hunter-specific appearance when you defeat Timewalking Illidan with any character.”

My question is, does this works if it’s done backwards? I killed Timewalking Illidan this week but I don’t have the Warglaives of Azzinoth achievement yet, would I need to kill TW Illidan AGAIN once I get the glaives? Or would I be able to transmog them once I get the drop in a qualifying class since I have already done the TW part? Thank you in advance.

fun fact: I had the warglaives drop the SAME DAY before killing TW Illidan… the problem??.. they dropped in my Warlock, can’t equip them, rip.

It’s not something I have first hand experience with, but the achievement text specifically says “Defeat Illidan during Black Temple Timewalking after completing the “Warglaives of Azzinoth” achievement” which seems to pretty clearly indicate you need to get the Warglaives achievement first.
