Warfront Loot - An History of RNG

I’m mainly speaking in regards to alts that are being leveled, because the game’s loot RNG is not tweaked well enough to look at equipped/existing gear pieces and be weighted to choose a piece to upgrade versus awarding an exact copy of an existing one, or even worse, a lower level item.
Notice in the breakdown listed, that it appears to be a 40% chance to get an upgrade. I know this is a single character and “RNG is RNG”, but you have to admit that it’s surprisingly consistent with every 5 Warfronts won. I will continue to post updates as they are completed.

Case in point.

Alt went in to it’s first Warfront yesterday, with the highest level item being 345 gloves. Everything else was 335 and below, except for 340 boots, belt and cape all looted from Arathi rares prior to the Alliance’s Warfront starting. The reward from the 370 quest was 370 gloves. Sure, an upgrade from 345 but…yeah.

1st Warfront - 340 cape, no upgrade.
2nd Warfront - 340 boots, no upgrade.
3rd Warfront - 340 bracers, an upgrade.:white_check_mark:
4th Warfront - 340 shield, an upgrade.:white_check_mark:
5th Warfront - 340 gloves, no upgrade, and slot already has 370 equipped.

Meanwhile, I still had 315 chest, 325 shoulders, 330 helm, 330 legs, and 335 weapon.

6th Warfront - 340 belt, no upgrade.
7th Warfront - 340 legs, an upgrade.:white_check_mark:
8th Warfront - 340 chest, an upgrade.:white_check_mark:
9th Warfront - 340 chest, no upgrade, exact same azerite traits as the previous Warfront.
10th Warfront - 340 gloves, no upgrade, and slot already has 370 equipped.

Meanwhile, I still had 325 shoulders, 330 helm, and 335 weapon.

*Side Note - 2 pieces now upgraded from weekly WQ boss - 355 cape, 355 legs, upgrades from 340.

11th Warfront - 345 belt, an upgrade but only from 340.:white_check_mark:
12th Warfront - 340 cape, no upgrade and slot was just filled with a 355.
13th Warfront - 340 helm, an upgrade.:white_check_mark:
14th Warfront - 340 boots, no upgrade.
15th Warfront - 340 legs, no upgrade and slot was just filled with a 355.

Meanwhile, I still had 325 shoulders and 335 weapon.

16th Warfront - 340 shoulders, an upgrade.:white_check_mark:
17th Warfront - 340 bracers, no upgrade.
18th Warfront - 345 shield, an upgrade but only from 340.:white_check_mark:
19th Warfront - 340 shoulders, no upgrade, exact same azerite traits as the previous shoulders looted.
20th Warfront - 340 shield, no upgrade, 345 equipped from 18th Warfront.

Meanwhile, I still have a 335 weapon, and am still batting 1.000 for a 40% chance of some type of upgrade through 20 Warfronts completed on the alt.

21st Warfront - 340 gloves, no upgrade, and slot already has 370 equipped.
22nd Warfront - 340 shield, no upgrade, 345 equipped.
23rd Warfront - 340 belt, no upgrade, 345 equipped.
24th Warfront - 340 weapon, an upgrade.:white_check_mark:
25th Warfront - 340 weapon, no upgrade.

However, I no longer need any pieces that can drop from a Warfront.

I’m just not sure what your point is, but gratz on getting 6 upgrades in like 1 or 2 days.

I mean you got a ton of upgrades for a running an instance that’s literally an autowin with no challenge at all. Not sure what the complaining is for.

So if you have warforged boots you shouldn’t get another boot drop unless its titanforged? That would make gearing up alts a little bit too overpowered.

Not understanding the problem but if you are suggesting that you should be getting an upgrade every time you do any activity then I’m fairly certain that won’t be happening.

If anything, there is far too much gear in the game so complaining about warfront gear is kind of scary, no matter what your perceived issue is.

Warfronts are a catch-up mechanic for alts. The point being getting upgrades. I’m just recording the percentages of how often that occurs on one character, and how long it takes to fill all of the slots that are still sub 340 level, noting drops that are redundant or lower level than equipped prior to filling the slots that are sub 340.

More people need to keep data.

How about being able to target the slot you need rather than have what happened to me last night…a set of 340 AND 370 pants? On the same toon from the same warfront?

One person running a warfront 15 times and reporting results isn’t useful data by the most generous margin. Maybe 30 times for z-scores, but you don’t even have a counterfactual here.

WoW loot systems have NEVER looked at what you already have.
NEVER.

Each loot source (boss, emissary, etc) has a loot table of items that it can drop for each class (and sometimes spec). It is totally random which piece will drop from that table. What any character currently has is not, and never has been, a factor in that drop chance.

That’s actually a fairly good spread. If you want the game to check your gear and only give upgrades that’s doubtful to happen.

You can do your own RNG check.

Counting main hand and offhand separate warfront can drop 12 slots for you.

Now go roll a 12 sided die (slots) 15 times (warfronts done) and tally all your results.

Do you expect every number of a 12 sided die to come up in 15 rolls? Did you?

You can try to complain the data is inadequate. But in most cases people making the complaint you are making have no data whatever.

Oh, I wholeheartedly agree. It’s just one character’s history of loot drops in Warfronts, nothing more. There’s no data that I could post that Blizzard doesn’t have access to millions of times over.

I think asking for any more gear or selection of gear from Warfronts is extremely selfish.
I’d be fine with some gear being spattered around on a vendor, but no way would I think being able to buy an item you want every single warfront would be fair.

Really need to be limiting the amount of gear we get in this game if anything. Ironically, the fact that you are upset about the randomness of getting TWO items, both being pants, really says everything about the problem here.

Being able to go from 320 gear to raid ready in less than a week is incredibly fast.

Do you want even more gear?
You get one piece every win.

Why dont every 120 after the first toon jjst start at 340 gear then. They can mail you upgrades every week.

I dont think the op is complaining about wanting more gear. It just seems to me he found it interesting that he got 2 upgrades out of 5 runs everytime and numericaly speaking it is. At least to me.

Oh? I take it you dont do questing then, because if you DID, youd know that many quests offer a selection of gear as a reward.

If they suggested this for m plus youd be all for it.

If people are truly concerned about keeping reliable and consistent data then why not just use the wowhead client? I’m sure it tracks warfronts and is then posted to up to wowhead so everyone can see.

Lets say you do 3 warfronts and get the same item three times in a row.

Wouldnt you be asking why?

So with that logic, all in-game content should be adjusted to give a choice of awards, right? I can’t see any problem with that…
