I think one very subtle problem WoW is facing that makes it feel dead are the lack of memes. Back in the old days, we didn’t have vines but we did have WoW videos that went viral.
Today, there’s nothing out there, but I think if we the community tried more, we could have ourselves some dank WoW memes that are this good:

The most common WoW memes now are ones that are extremely dead and use impact font text and top and bottom text unironically.
You can’t expect consistent good dank memes to become popular from a game that’s already dead. On the other hand though, the Classic community has some good memes.
And in all fairness, you can find some pretty fresh memes on Reddit, though I haven’t seen them get extremely popular outside of the reddit itself.
I think Savix also makes pretty good memes as well.

I would say that “You think you do, but you don’t” and “If you [X], [faction] is waiting for you” were approaching meme status for a while.
That’s the issue with trust level 3.
