"Warcraft" movie issues

So, in honor of Classic I am watching fantasy movies all day, starting with “Warcraft”. I have noticed some issues with the movie. Foremost, it needs more backstory/story/character explanation. Non WoW people probably had a hard time following it. Also, Khadgar speaks of being sent to the floating city of Dalaran. Only at that time Dalaran had not yet been teleported. Still a good movie to start Warcraft day.

You should check out the deleted scenes on YouTube. Particularly the ones with the orcs.

Oof, how did they let that one slip by?

I started watching it on demand one day with the wife, and basically had to turn it off after she commented “why did they make that guy look identical to the Burger King” in reference to King Lane first appearing on screen.

Could not unsee

I hated the movie when I saw it in the theater. When I recently re-watched it I actually found a lot to love. There aren’t many movies that will show a warlock slowly leeching the soul from a prisoner. I like the movie now!

I’m assuming that the movie just isn’t canon to the games

Rather than treat the movie like a fan service, it should have been treated like a brand new fantasy concept. They tried to shoe horn in too much, The first movie should have covered what lead up to the Orcs needing to come to Azeroth in the first place.

As they were making it and they kept doing interviews talking about how much fan service they were doing I knew it was going to suck. it’s the same Trap every Video Game > Movie falls into.

There is so much rich Lore in the series that it can stand on its own, without any fan service.

The Warcraft movie was only a little better than the Dungeons & Dragons movie that came out in 2000. Uwe Boll could have done a better job with both. Actually Boll’s Alone in the Dark (2005) with Christian Slater and Tara Reid was a better movie.

I’m not sure Boll can do better. That may have been his Godfather…

The characters and dialogue just weren’t interesting or engaging. I never felt any sort of connection to them, which is why I didn’t care about them. Maybe we should have started with Arthas as a kid?

It wasn’t a great movie but compared to other video-game movies it was ok

I remember going to the theater to watch it on launch weekend. There were like 20 people in the theater. It’s then I knew I had done f’d up. lol It’s entertaining. Didn’t expect it to be perfect.

Was a pretty good movie…if you know and care for the lore of WoW.

Sadly…the movie they made was like the 3rd culmination movie of a trilogy. So people not into WoW, were pretty lost.

If they made…say…a move about the Humans (intro to world, lore and character)…then a movie about the orcs, (their past, their problems, the results of their desicions)…THEN this movie would have been a great 3rd movie. Where we see the results of their worlds colliding.

Sadly…we were tossed deep into lore and I bet new viewers were lost in the first 5 mins.

As someone who has played WoW since Orcs VS Human, it made sense to me and was fun to watch. Wish there was more.

I know, that scene was a little bit disturbing. You could see that guys life force just draining out of him. It was awesome.

Dalaran was built atop a massive ley line in its original location.

You might be able to sell that as “floating” even though its still stationary.

Warcraft could have easily been a trilogy. Then it wouldn’t have felt nearly as rushed and missing so much backstory. I don’t hate it, I’ve seen it a few times, but it could have definitely been done better I 100% agree

Or started further back on Draenor with more about Durotan and Draka so we cared about them? And understood the dynamics between the clans? And even understood who the draenei were in the cages being sucked dry. And why the legion was on Draenor to begin with. Oh man, I could keep going lol

I think one of the biggest issues is the ending of the movie. Considering they started with Warcrat 1, I find it odd why they changed the lore ending so much from the games so that a transition into warcraft 2 (if that is where they wanted to go) would have been very weird.

The dark portal was already destroyed pretty much doing all of Warcraft 2’s work for the Allaince. Really the whole fact that Stormwind survived at the end of the film and the Horde lost, losing the dark portal in the process just means Blackhand will have to break character to form his army, use Guldan and push into Lordern for Warcraft 2 . Even jumping ahead to like Arthas would be like “How did we get here?” The ending just left me "Where could they even go if they wanted to. At this point without reinforcements Stormwind can just pick off the remaining orcs.

I did like the rest of the film though, just I didn’t understand the ending, was waiting for some huge tragic event and it never happened, then couldn’t work out how they would move on from it. (Yes sure King Lane died but Stormwind burns to the ground with him in Warcraft 1)

The entire movie itself is an issue.
