Updated August 16, 2024, here is my massive, comprehensive timeline of Warcraft/WoW games, novels, short stories, comics, graphic novels, manga and short films/video/anime, with as many links as I could possibly find. Improvements are welcome, you can contact me on this thread or through the info in the Google Sheet. Enjoy!

The placement of some books may be puzzling because most of those take place in the past (like the War of the Ancients Trilogy). I’ve placed them where the events start in present time, mostly trying to follow the timeline provided by the WoW Wiki at Fandom. If I have more time to work on this I may split different books into “past” and “present” but I fear that could quickly get out of hand.

This is very well done and neatly organized, but I’d move the WotA trilogy to the -10,000 category. I don’t think the opening being set post-WC3 is nearly as important as the meat of the story being in the past.
Dawn of the Aspects is more arguable since it has more stuff going on in the present, but WotA only has the prologue and epilogue. Regardless, Dawn of the Aspects definitely needs to be moved to MoP. Jaina is already the leader of Dalaran in it, so it’s post Tides of War.
Fantastic work though. This is great.

Well, why not have both, as the meme says? I’ve just updated the timeline to include the upcoming books. I also made the change you suggested to Dawn of the Aspects, and duplicated the WotA trilogy, indicating that the past elements of it take place -10,000.
Cheers!

I really appreciated the work you have done.
My kids are enjoying so much of the WoW books by reading them with order.
Thank You
Some feedbacks:
- Can we insert a column in Novels that can align those Chronicle books with timelines. I’ve added a new column called “book set” on my local spreadsheet and aligned those book set to timelines, like “WarCraft War of The Ancients Archive”, “Warcraft Archive”, “Warcraft Chronicle volume 1-4”
- Please update with two upcoming books: “World of Warcraft Chronicle Volume 4”, “World of Warcraft: Exploring Azeroth: Islands & Isles (Exploring Azeroth, 5)”

Impressive. How long did this take to make? That’s some fine work.

I just found another post with some new books updated up to “The War Within” www . mmo-champion . com / threads / 2454167-Warcraft-Literature-Chronology-(Updated-for-The-War-Within)
@Valinära are you able to help to update the spreadsheet?

Should we update that now or after TWW comes out? Lore could change before the release.

Hi! Thanks for the suggestions. The Chronicles cover a lot of things and cross over a bit, but I have added a new column showing what they cover (mostly, we’ll just have to live with a bit of ambiguity between 1 & 2). I have added the three upcoming books today, as well as refreshing all links so that they show preview thumbnails when you hover and including a ton of new Kindle links for stuff that is available digitally now!
Thanks for the update.
Can you also add the two WarCraft movie novels into the timeline?
WarCraft: Durotan: The Official Movie Prequel
Warcraft: The Official Movie Novelization

Thanks for the suggestion. My understanding is that the movie establishes an alternate canon/universe. There are many similarities to the WoW canon since they share the same source material (Warcraft: Orcs & Humans, i.e. The First War). I’ve added them to the novels list, as close to where they should be as possible (without adding new lines that would otherwise be blank) but they should be read (and the movie watched) with this perspective in mind. Cheers!
