Does anyone know where I can find a suitable advanced guide for using warcraft logs. I know the basics but am wondering how much more there is to learn. All the guides I google are basically “how to’s” and basics.
I am especially wanting to know what to look for as a tank. Like most people most of what I do is look at rankings to see what others are doing and make a note of my own rankings.
Are there no other metrics on the site or is it all just output? Is there something there that can actual measure my performance as a player similar to the group execution ranking? And so on.
Ty in advance.
It can be useful to use the Compare function to see how you’re doing relative to other tanks in your class & spec within your item-level bracket. See if they use similar talents or if they’re using an ability much more often than you are. Click “Compare” (to the right of “Analyze”), make sure “Damage Taken” is selected instead of “Damage Done”, then select yourself in the third option down to compare against similar parses, then review the top 10 players to see what they do differently than you.
Another option is to dump your report into WoWAnalyzer and see what it recommends. I find this is sometimes insightful but not as useful as comparing against the top 10 players as the Analyzer tends to be somewhat generic and often suggests I just do things better that I’m already doing pretty well. My biggest gains were always changing out a talent or piece of gear for particular bosses (e.g., ones with lots of adds are more M+ setup than ones with no adds which are Patchwerk setups). Caveat, I’ve never looked at this for tanking; just for DPS.
