I was playing X-Com again recently and I wished there were more games like it. The replay value and turn based combat, along with base building and troop improvement, is just fantastic. The X-Com series of games really are some of the best turn based strategy games around.
I was thinking how they could also be very well translated into the Warcraft Universe. 2 Campaigns. Alliance and Horde. While a war between the two is going on, there are base building and tactical assaults and things going on to further the war effort. With all the classes, there would be great squad variety. And assembling a squad of 5 to accomplish objectives. Research new weapons and armor for them.
I know its just a guilty pleasure ask, but it could also easily be adapted to all consoles. (Nintendo Switch, to play it on the go would be great).
Well, not warcraft related but more so fantasy related, the Fire Emblem series plays very similar to Xcom and is a lot of fun. If you haven’t checked out those games, the latest (Three Houses) is really good, which is on the Nintendo Switch.
I beat all 3 campaigns. Solid game. But classic fire emblem. I would be game for warhammer, warcraft, LOTR. Some fantasy trope X-Com style game. Done as well as X-Com.
I can pick up X-Com and play it any time. Such a great series of games.
Silent Storm was an amazing repayable xcom style game during WWII. It had one expansion to add a little more fun to it as well.
Silent Storm is a 2003 turn-based tactics video game developed by Nival Interactive and published by JoWood. The game is set in a fictionalized World War II Europe with science fiction elements.
XCOM-style Warcraft could be amazing. Honestly, the dungeon-crawling style and pod mechanics of XCOM translate incredibly well to WoW. Like, legitimately I use the terms like “dungeons” and “pulls” for Chosen Strongholds already.
