Isn’t about engineers. It’s the situation of why Vanilla / TBC / wotlk eventually turned into… retail. You can’t recreate something well if you have no idea why all the little choices made along the way, were made. There was a lot of game design philosophies worked out that were just lost as the old guard was replaced… and it was a far more extreme case for Diablo, since the top 15 people left the company at once, and that branch of blizzard was shut down entirely.
Games and game design are a form of art, and without the original artists, you aren’t coming anywhere close to that original vision, no matter how hard you try. There’s just too much nuance that isn’t replicable.
Most likely not. It might be active for a few weeks, but yah def will fall off a cliff pretty quickly. Its tough to go from SOD where all classes pretty much feel amazing, to the handful of META classes that exist in a true classic setting.
SOD has been great and still is.

I think they are more than capable of creating a great new MMO. An entirely new game based on WOW or Diablo lore, would be amazing, but why would they?
Think about it from a business perspective. The return on ivestment isnt there to make an amazing new MMO. There are very few gaming studios left that are actually passionate about making legendary video games.

You realize Kara Crypts will be a raid right? That’s two raids in P7+ whatever the scarlet content is.

You must be high. They already tried and failed on that. What do you think Project Titan was? Had to be retrofitted into overwatch, and even with overwatch 2 the pve mode failed. They absolutely don’t know how to recreate their success, they’re just relying on the old formula / content more or less being the back bone for retail.
Money, plain and simple. They were able to salvage the efforts of project titan, so not all the value prospect was lost there… but I imagine that making them a whole lot more gunshy going forward on the topic. After all, why risk all that time with development when you still have one of the top mmos that you can just keep milking with 90 dollar mounts. Guess it will all depend on what Microsoft wants now.

Your 2nd point just supports mine, no reason to work on something new if we are all still playing and loving Classic and Retail.
Them saying scarlet themed “instance” makes me worried we will just get a nothing burger instance like DFC that you run once and stop caring about. Part of the reason I stuck with SoD was the teased Kara/Scarlet themed raid content but chance of that look slim.

They specifically said INSTANCE content in the video, I want to be VERY EXPLICITLY CLEAR. At no point did they call it a raid and that word choice from them seems VERY deliberate.

just drop the cleansing the ashbringer questline and make the scarlet crusade and kharazhan crypts things u teased raids and everyone will be happy

I didn’t play SoM and didn’t know this, but I am very intrigued by it. If I could keep playing SoD until BC comes to the fresh servers, then swap over to that, that would really be the best of all worlds for me. I’d be a happy subbed camper for quite a while.
Unless they intend to keep progressing those fresh servers beyond BC or Wrath, in which case I don’t want to bother with them, but we don’t know that either. I really wish they would set expectations before asking us to invest time, but I suspect they don’t because they can’t; this feels like stuff they’re making up as they go along.
And even when they say it … Dance Studio was on the box. The North remembers.

3 months ago, an interview all but confirmed a Classic+ is coming.
We do not want SoD. We want expansion on the content that already exists. We want fresh content. Leave the randomness of mage healers and rogue tanks behind. Focus on the things that did work well in SoD. Elimination of world buffs upon raid entry, etc.

10 likes 1 day after posting. Kaivax, I don’t know how more clearly we could communicate our concern. We need, and honestly probably deserve for our dedication and time investment, a long-term plan asap. Many of expected to hear something yesterday and instead heard something much different–be it misunderstood or not.
SoD phase 1 and 2 were some of the best experiences I’ve ever had in WoW. Many of us deeply care about and love our characters and if it’s over, we should be told so now instead of hearing 2 messages at once.
