Don’t they legally have to release it before the end of the year due to the pre-order deadline of Dec 31st?
I honestly don’t care as I am backlogged on games right now and I would rather they make me wait as long as they need to in order to get everything finished properly.
I see a lot of people repeating this, but I don’t see any references to actual written laws and this may or may not even be specific to the United States anyway.
I don’t believe so. FF VII remake was pushed back a bunch of times, and GRRM’s deadline for Winds of Winter was like 5 years ago. People have had this stuff pre-ordered for a long time lol
In Germany, a company cannot offer a preorder without a firm release date. Through a variety of misinformation, gamers have taken that to mean it applies everywhere.
It’s in reference to a lawsuit in Germany late last year. They don’t have to MEET a date, what Germany banned was vague “coming soon” open ended pre-orders.
Because Germany is part of the EU, it’s the same for video games in the rest of the EU. Now it affects America because publishers like to do world-wide releases, so they have to release to the common denominator, that way one region doesn’t get it before or after another region and they can still do preorders.
So basically the lawsuit is why you now see December 31 dates until they can get a solid one.
Now if they have to push the date back, according to the new EU law that’s fine, but they have to give people in the EU the right to cancel/refund their preorders.
Publishers don’t want to do that, so they usually stick that date as hard as they can.
It’s not a variety of misinformation, other than what you’re staying here about a “firm” release date. If a publisher changes the date, then they have to offer the ability to refund or cancel, that’s about all the impact that law has.
It applies everywhere as long as publishers want to do global releases. And they do.
I am well aware of the documented problems, the cut features, and the ongoing discussions on both the forums and reddit.
I’m disappointed, to say the least, but I never really stopped playing the original version of WC3 and frequently use the map editor to create scenarios/campaigns etc. The updated models and world editor functionality was enough to justify the asking price for me, though I do mourn what could have been.
Hopefully the extra month will be enough to work out the last of the kinks.
